Funny thing about this image. I originally shot two images, one for the front of the lens and another for the foreground/background as that is how I would usually do a lot of these images. With the DR on this camera, I only needed the one of the front element and could easily get the rest to look how I like it with very little work :D

I really want one of these. I need a little more reach at times (127mm on cropper) and my 50 (75 on crop) really doesn't cut it as a portrait lens. Almost bought on via Amazon prime then backed out when I saw I was being charged tax! Prolly only a matter of time.

yeah, the DR is something that even after two years I am shocked by...particularly with shadows. I don't find it as recoverable in the highlights, so I tend to expose for those and then work the files to bring out the dark parts.

my day job is being an architectural project manager, doing hotels all over the southeast...I really only work with one developer now...we just finished up my project in Orlando, the management company just sent some of the photos the pro did...it made me want to cry...I really need to figure out a way to get them to realize that for the money they spent...they could have better...it hurts to see my design so poorly represented, and then it hurts again to see someone making good money putting out crap work...end rant...vmad

That sounds like a bad deal Travis. I wish I was doing this full time. Then you could fly me down to shoot the final projects.

I'm sure Travis has considered that but architecture photography takes a lot of time (if done right).

I have already proposed that to my boss...he doesn't want to because he is afraid of what might happen if the client is not happy...he doesn't want to risk losing the hotel client over bad pictures...and I think to myself...I could do the images they have with my dang phone...

I am trying to figure out how to make a proposal that has nothing to do with my office...but do it as my photography business.

and this is the exact market I want to be in...so I am trying to figure out how to make it be independent of my day job. Next time I see the client in person...next week...I am going to pitch doing the next one we have opening next month.

Right before this shot the country sheriff pulled up behind me, but he just thought I was broken down on the road, but
I did think to myself 'here we go again' :)

I am a scan first reader and immediately thought of the Bob Marley song. <G>

I didnt know that! Ive built a few hotels in my day. Running all the development now for a Senior Living company. I was told by the CFO you cant use your drone. So I said fine. Then you cant use my pictures because the tripod is as dangerous as the drone........ So now they are paying thru the nose.

In the development world it is very hard to get people to understand you can do more than one thing. If it doesnt hit that check box it must be wrong. Sigh.... sorry

yep, I am life cycle...I start with them when they are concepts, and work through the design, document production doing the drawings and then manage the construction...my client knows I am a photographer, hell, they have one of my images hanging in one of their lobbies...I just need to talk to the right people about shooting them for their portfolio and for Brand listings...

They are definitely worth the money if you can get one. Here we get charged tax for everything thanks to the GST so that could never deter me from buying it haha.

I definitely agree with the sentiment I read in one review that unlike DSLR's, they are more like computers that can take photos. I used to always expose for shadows and bracket or try recover highlights but it's quite different now always exposing for highlights. I wouldn't say it's as perfect as some make out though as I've noticed quite noisy shadows when doing +100 shadows in LR when shooting at ISO 100.

I need to get a drone. I missed out on an opportunity to shoot for a new client because they wanted aerial photos. Bummer.

yeah, +100 on shadows and an exposure adjustment generates noise on the a9 and sometimes on the r2 as well...I try to avoid doing that...which is why for most of my shoots I am still bracketing if the DR is that wide...then blend together to avoid noise.

Thanks Travis. I’m either going to get the Mavic Pro or Phantom 4 Pro. I prefer image quality over video or portability.

Question, any of you wedding/event shooters using the Godox V860ii-s? If yes, how long does the battery really last? Info I'm finding is 650 full power flashes. So, I'm guessing it should easily get a solid 800-1000 flashes at a venue of variable lighting situations. Also, has anyone tried it's cycle time with 10 FPS? I've gotten bursts of 5-6 with the TT685S powered by Powerex Batteries while mounted on my a6500
