Thanks Travis. I’m either going to get the Mavic Pro or Phantom 4 Pro. I prefer image quality over video or portability.

Since you got potential projects on the line I agree with valuing IQ over portability. Sorry to hear you missed out on a project. Those missed experiences are valuable for validating the tools you need. Sounds like you really need a P4 Pro. :)

Question, any of you wedding/event shooters using the Godox V860ii-s? If yes, how long does the battery really last? Info I'm finding is 650 full power flashes. So, I'm guessing it should easily get a solid 800-1000 flashes at a venue of variable lighting situations. Also, has anyone tried it's cycle time with 10 FPS? I've gotten bursts of 5-6 with the TT685S powered by Powerex Batteries while mounted on my a6500

I use them. They cycle faster than any other speedlight I've used. A single set of batteries ng usually makes it through a wedding, but I do have spare batteries.

You mean a single charge of the Li-ion battery? Just making sure we are talking about the same unit. The Godox V860ii-s with rechargeable Li-ion battery. Thanks for the quick response!

I have used my V860iiS and I've found my flash to misfire from time to time when it's on the hotshoe. This is the latest firmware on the flash and latest firmware on my A7iii.

Battery capacity is quite incredible. This cheap flash has no weather seal so this is not a good thing for Pro application in my opinion.....unless you live in the a rain free environment :P

If godox introduced weather sealing this would be a great improvement.

Also just remember the godox V860iiS does NOT emit any red focus beam either. Mirrorless cannot really use it anyways.

I'm finding a lot of folks on Fred Miranda shooting both mirror bodies (Canon/Nikon) and Sony mention how either A7iii and A7Riii struggles in low light auto focus. I sure wish the mirrorless would be identical in performance to mirrored bodies.

Even the Godox TT685F emits a red beam that appears to help my Fuji X-t2 a bit in low light. I know my sony version of V860iis flash does not help the camera at all.

Anyone with a battery grip on their Riii have a photo of it? Curious as to fit out on the edges.

I have the Sony version on the a9, flawless fit. The chassis of the a9 and r3 are the same IIRC.

for a while, I was using C3 for 120 fps, and it bothered the hell out of me that the mode was basically M shooting mode, not a video mode like the dial. So I setup the movie dial to do 120 then save to C3. A total life saver. Works so good, flip back and forth between the modes.

Of course making high value videos with a story is still challenging. Having unfinished projects drives me mad. Can't seem to ever finish a video of my kids playing in the park. So difficult yet rewarding to make nice videos.

I notice out of the hundreds of videos I have, my kids only frequent a few of them. They'll turn on the TV just to watch a few of them or to show guests. Lasting memories.

I'm not really all about making edited videos. Just want to capture the video in best quality I can for storage and basically take SOOC to youtube for family share.

Maybe one day I'll get enough courage to tackle editing.

editing is where it's at. I'm sure you edit photos somewhat, and proficient at it. The concepts of video arent that far off. I could never get into the complexity or slowness of video editors such as vegas or premiere. Then I got Final Cut on a Mac...... WOW, what a difference. Just so fluid and fast.

unfortunately, quality matters, people lose interest in poorly made videos, and I've experimented with this concept. It's how popular youtube videos are gauged. I've made a lot of clips in the form of stories on FB. With cutstory, I can chop up a long clip and upload the pieces into a video collection. If I get even 50% of viewers that are willing to watch from beginning to end, it's considered a high engaging video. So I check who viewed the videos from start to end, a very basic way of checking how engaging your videos are, because I'm a big believer of making quality over quantity. You can experiment this yourself, it's a neat way to see the value of your videos. It'll likely translate to how much your family values your video as well.

it also keeps your library nice and tight, assuming you delete a bunch of the clips not used, my video library balloons like crazy these days, no way I can keep all the crummy clips, it's kind of like photography, keepers are seldom.
