I have used my V860iiS and I've found my flash to misfire from time to time when it's on the hotshoe. This is the latest firmware on the flash and latest firmware on my A7iii.

Battery capacity is quite incredible. This cheap flash has no weather seal so this is not a good thing for Pro application in my opinion.....unless you live in the a rain free environment :P

If godox introduced weather sealing this would be a great improvement.

Also just remember the godox V860iiS does NOT emit any red focus beam either. Mirrorless cannot really use it anyways.

I'm finding a lot of folks on Fred Miranda shooting both mirror bodies (Canon/Nikon) and Sony mention how either A7iii and A7Riii struggles in low light auto focus. I sure wish the mirrorless would be identical in performance to mirrored bodies.

Even the Godox TT685F emits a red beam that appears to help my Fuji X-t2 a bit in low light. I know my sony version of V860iis flash does not help the camera at all.

Does it misfire a lot? I am migrating from Canon to Sony so I want to make sure I have competent run and gun lighting. I have been using the TT685S on my a6500 without any misfire issues and was pleasantly surprised to get the burst speed from it as well. I was hoping the V860iiS would be an upgrade in speed performance due to the Li-ion power.

I have not needed weather sealing thus far. Most of my events are indoors and weddings during fair California weather. Beach shoots are the only time I would need some king of sealing. I have added gaffer tape around the flash/trigger connection for a little added protection

I have yet to use my a7iii in a low light event/wedding. I am looking forward to seeing how it performs. I have a wedding in a couple of weeks so I will find out then. I am used to shooting with a Canon 6D and the a6500 and haven't had any issues with locking focus. Hoping the a7iii will be up to par with those at least

I turn off the focus assist beam on all my bodies, flashes and triggers. I don't want to be distracting and draw attention during ceremonies

Yes they are the same. Online shots I've seen show the edge of the grip not curved up to meet the curve on the camera body which I don't care for if that's the true fit. Read a review so may wait to see if Vello develops one. Thanks for the input.

2009 was probably my last trek up to the top. I recognize some of the slabs laying there in your shots. Very nice coverage of a unique place.

Does anyone use the 35mm f1.4 zeiss sony lens?

If so, how i the QC nowadays? It was known to have bad QC being the images are deCentered?

How can i test for decentered issues on this lens as i am thinking of grabbing one from amazon and just return it if its a dud

Thanks Travis. I’m either going to get the Mavic Pro or Phantom 4 Pro. I prefer image quality over video or portability.

Yep I agree. I wish there were confirmed reports of the new Mavic Pro II but it's all speculation right now. I"m leaning towards the Phantom 4 Pro v2.

yah we can. i just choose not to to keep the drama.

We were planning to shoot a moody/dark portrait inspired by Chris Knight but it's still early so we swang by somewhere ito shoot before heading to my garage pretend studio.

I got one last year and it was perfect. My first try, two years ago, was a dud that I returned. I entirely agree with your plan to buy from Amazon and return the lens if your not happy with it in any way. Done that myself.

I’ve been pleased with my tr685f with Fuji. Just recently with my A7iii with v860iis I was outdoors shooting my daughters class field trip and had misfires a good 8 consecutive shots!!!! with fully charged lithium battery. I really dislike the Sony hot shoe design and godox foot.
Since Sony is not my primary system I’m not stressing. I may pickup another v860ii for redundancy.

I am not resistant to adaptation to other manufacturers. Personally I prefer mirrored heavier bodies as I never ever fear missing pivotal moments regardless of low light. Oddly you hear on Fred Miranda forum members openly admit they have AF hiccups with A7Riii and other Sony bodies compared to their mirrored wedding setup camera bodies.

I will say it is not a wise choice to use adapted canon lenses for wedding work. I tested my A7iii with 24lLmk2, 35f2, 24-70 2.8mk2 and I threw it in my gear bag in disgust using it in a poorly lit reception in a Chinese restaurant. My 5d4 and 5d3 was my rockstar saviour! The sony did not work as I hoped. Mind you I was using adapted glass. For casual stuff the mc-11 and canon glass works well for non stressful photography.

I guess I must spend 10k to 12k on gmaster glass for a simple basic kit for native glass. For now my Sony is just a fun mirrorless camera set up just like my Fuji system.

Ceremonies typically are brightly lit so red focus assist beam is not noticeable imo. I understand we all have different methods and shooting style.

I do find that there is quite a noticeable difference in how the photos will look if you shoot and event with a Canon body and a Sony body. This is one reason why I rather shoot with two of the same manufacturer cameras . I’m still struggling to make my Sony files look similar to my Canon post processing work flow. Also it’s easier for me to use the same system as I can use remote trigger flashes during the reception seamlessly and effortlessly .

are you shooting TTL?

you can only shoot so fast in TTL, it has to prefire to meter.

Shoot at a slower speed with less power, like continuous low + higher iso. See if it still happens.

I've got the AA battery powered version, and able to hit 10fps on the flash with low power.

I wanna shoot this at F11 but the 85GM can't focus. All the lights in the room were shut, the only lights for me to grab focus is the modeling light coming from the AD600

What should I do to be able to grab focus at F11? Manual?

3 lights setup.
- a hint of light to the background was a bare speedlight(V860II)
- main light was the AD600(with 36" gridded stripbox - double diffuser)
- fill light was the AD200 with the same modifier as the main light
