I'm actually happy on the price too. 1600 is awesome. It's big, it's heavy. For portrait sessions it'll kick butt. I just think the 85A/200F2 will provide more versatility.

yeah 1600 is a nice price for that glass. But we all know sigma glass. Gonna a wait a couple months and snag it at a discount

Thanks David. At f1.4, the tip of his nose as well as his ears would be out of focus. :-)

Yeah, I know...I just need the eyes in focus. ;)

Sent off my A9 for cleaning monday. Got it back today. They did the hotshoe "mod" as well. They also called and left me a message asking how they did .....did I receive it and is everything as wished.

That is good support in my book.... Imaging Pro works!

I received an email from Sony Pro and they wanted me to call to pay for the fee. Is this normal? In this web based world, I thought it odd.

i just got an email for renewal too. it's worth it though. they're legit and saves me a lot not to mention the special treatment and free loaner if you wanna test out gears. i tested all the lenses and the A9 for free.

Yeah Sony's pro service seems more focused on interaction with a real person than a system. Its a good thing. Very personalized service

i'm still having an issue with exposure using strobe outdoor with HSS.

What I do is i turn OFF my strobe/transmitter first to dial exposure of the background. I'm even checking the histogram. Once i'm ok with my background, only then i turn on my strobe and transmitter. The camera was in full manual mode so i assume the exposure won't change especially that I'm also in manual mode on my strobe.

Result is like -2 stops under.

2 days ago I tried to matched the liveview preview to my histogram by adding DRO +4EV. it's because even if the in-camera meter reads 0, the preview is looking dark, it does not match including the histogram. By adding a DRO the preview as well as the histogram are both looking good while it still reads zero.

here's a couple of shots. I added about 1.5 to 2 exposure on both in LR. I got hired by an Advertising Agency for the marketing department of our local college school.

Question for y'all.

I received the A7RIII a couple of days ago. Loving it so far.

Being the lazy guy I am, I have not read through the manuals. Are there different ways to configure the dual card slots (write to one, then the other vs. use one as a backup copy to the other)?
Can the cards in both slots be of different sizes?

Yes, they can be setup a number of ways, and they can be different sizes.on the a9 its the toolbox menus, page 5, recording mode...

You can't uplift shadows using the slider in LR?

At f/2.2, iso 100 on the subject a speedlight can easily supply enough light.

HSS to me is run gun as that type of lighting is NOT consistent like shooting all manual. Issue is if you want the "pop" factor you'd need to do some investment in a selection of ND filters with strobe work (limited to max flash sync) or you can buy a variable ND filter but you may need to deal with colour shift in post.

You would imagine shooting all available light should give you properly exposed background and then adjust fill flash on the subject to "taste" HSS should be that simple. I wonder if it's just some settings in camera. I just don't use my Sony setup for hired jobs like that.

The practice shot you've provided can easily be achieved with little effort with speedlight on shoe. The leaves in the focus plane displays hard light. Was the strobe in a softbox?

At f/2.2 I would have guessed the GM 85 should have decimated the trees in the background to more creamy bliss.

Did you shoot natural light as a secondary approach to these files you're submitting to the client? I do this from time to time when I feel people (client) would appreciate 2 approaches to an image look. I think available light would have uplifted the background while you concentrated on the subjects exposure with available light. Available light would have looked easier on the eyes instead of flash look.
