Canon announced an all new EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II today. Looks like it should be great...a real consideration for Sony shooters looking for a 70-200 f/4 type lens.

Well crap, I can’t get the YT link to work. It’s a preview of the lens from B&H.

Very cool! I would be interested in the f4 version.

I speculate the new Canon zoom will have more contrast in the Bokeh making it a little bit more nervous compared to the original f4is. I think that is a byproduct of a nano coated lens that will be incredibly sharp versus version one of that lens. All of the newer generation Canon lenses have more micro contrast and sharper then the older generations.

I’m still quite shocked in how some of the foliage /bokeh with the G master 70 to 200 f2.8 could look so distracting.

I still think primes are the ideal lens for Sony system for better Bokeh

I thought it might have appeal to you. The new coating would probably solve my biggest complaint about the previous version. And it would be super if it’s sharper in the corners; would make it a killer telephoto for land and cityscapes.

Primes are the ideal lens for better bokeh on any system. ;)

I'll agree with you there!! I'll say when I do a family session outdoors I think the 70-200 on a full frame is an amazing tool for versatility. Often I'd be taking a photo in a peculiar angle or distance across a stream or path. I've found some serious limitations at time using a fast long prime outdoors not being long enough.

70-200 f/4IS mk2 doesn't interest me as a Canon shooter because even for outdoor family sessions I'd want f/2.8 to maximize bokeh. I've found my Fuji system 50-140mm f/2.8 provides approx f/4 dof (similar to a FF with 70-200 f/4) and in most cases it just doesn't cut it for shallow dof.

I have high hopes for it. I wonder how much bigger the FE 100-400 is compared to it.

Beautiful! Love seeing your work with the Zeiss.

FE 100-400 weighs about the same as a 70-200 f/2.8 lens.

Thanks,
I think as usual i worded my question in the most backwards wat possible..

What i meant to ask , if i dont bring the lights.. so using natural light only , no artificial lighting .
How do i set then?

Aim the lens with the expodisc in front of it at the light source. If you're out in an open area with the sun, point it towards the sun and snap a photo. If you are between buildings, pay attention to the shadows on your subject's face to determine the direction of the strongest source or light and point the camera in that direction and take a photo. You can then use the expodisc photo to set your custom white balance in camera or in post

I really like how the trees become the mist, center left of the image...or is the mist becoming the trees? ;-)a

I liked that too, and that was part of the edit, to make sure that was perceptible...with the overall flatness of the scene it was a challenge.

Thank you David! Ok thank you for the weight of the 100-400. I wouldn't mind having the reach plus it's an excellent lens. Heavy yes but I've hiked with the Canon 70-200 f2.8 II before so it's doable.

Thanks for putting that out there...I will have to check mine when I get home...not sure if they are v3 or v4...hard to know if the little chord is thin or thick! they all look thin to me.
