I think her skin tones are OK but to me, the contrast seems a bit harsh. You might try reducing the contrast/opening up the shadows a bit. I think the contrast makes her eyes seem too dark.

I know it's a matter of personal preference but here's my take on it for what it's worth.

took your advice on the contrast..

it is all about taste .. but I know my taste is often not the generally preferred one as I do tend to prefer dark and heavy contrast..

but for my families sake , I will deliver a more neutral batch of photos..

2 variations on this concept. The idea was to make my letter "a" resemble a building. It needs refinement I know. The font needs to change to something more streamlined. I may squeeze in the second and third lines so that the top line looks like a roof.

Just a thought but could you do an upside down M below the A in the same style as this making it look like a tall building? (Or even an M up the right way). The two you posted here have legs I think

Randall,

It's a matter of your personal taste. I see Sony "flavour" in both images. Very real looking and not that post processed "calm" look you were effortlessly getting with your Fuji gear. As you can see it's very difficult to get that identical "look" in the Sony files vs Fuji or even Canon. Sony just looks crisp looking and literally real to life.

I like a tad less contrast and slightly hitting the shadow slider to the right. Opening up the shadows is what I do often.

Both images look great. Sony just always seems colder sooc. Sliding the kelvin to the right might give an orange bloom. Your taste in colours is what counts.

The difference is too subtle for me, Randall, especially if each image is viewed in isolation.

I know what you mean by preferring dark shadows and heavy contrast – your avatar is an excellent portrait to my eyes – but young female family members don't appreciate the look as much as we do! Brightly light them, and smear half a tub of Vaseline over the front of your lens, and they're as pleased as Punch with the result!

Perhaps a half-way house is the compromise to go for.

Hey Randall. Did you use a flash with a ceiling bounce? If so, try firing over your shoulder at an angle.

High contrast is fine and a matter of taste. But with high contrast in particular you need to watch the shape of the light fall-off....same as when you use your off camera lights. When the light hits from above, the resulting shadows will fall under the eyes and chin and can be unflattering. Plus hotshot on her forehead.

Flagging your flash will give you even greater control of the direction of the lightspread and shadows

Thanks Travis. I like it too. Perhaps with a square border instead of round? Btw, I quite like your logo. Did you design that yourself?.

Thanks. No, one of my best friends is a graphic designer in Sacramento, he and I worked on it last year after I spent years trying to come up with something. I needed the professional help...the project was way below his pay grade but he gave it the full project treatment.

Looks great. I've been trying to come up with a logo for about a year now. I was thinking about trying one of those online vendors but prices get high real quick. I may try Pinterest of all places for a freelance graphic artist. I already have 3 solid concepts with the help from the guys here.

---------------

This morning I went to downtown to get some additional shots of the Menger hotel to wrap up a shoot for a client. After I was done shooting, I went up to a parking garage and messed around with the tilt function of my TSE lens. We will see how they turn out. The focus area was quite small so I'm not sure how it will look. I wasn't sure if I should be shooting wide open or stopped down. Such a newbie with this tilt-shift lens. :-P

Hi. I sold off my Canon 6D and kit lens and have been using my new A7iii for about a month now. Great camera.

I stilll have some Canon accessories and am wondering if my old strobe will work with my new Sony off-camera.

I have a set of wireless triggers (Phottix Ares, series I). It uses single-pin firing.

My strobe is a Canon 430exII.

So far my research leads me to believe I can mount the transmitter onto the Sony hotshoe and it will send the signal to the receiver and fire the flash (off camera, of course).

My only fear is screwing up the camera. I’m not too concerned about the strobe not working. Sure, I want it to work )that’s the point) but not if there is a risk to the camera.

Any suggestions? Thank you so much.
