Hi. I sold off my Canon 6D and kit lens and have been using my new A7iii for about a month now. Great camera.

I stilll have some Canon accessories and am wondering if my old strobe will work with my new Sony off-camera.

I have a set of wireless triggers (Phottix Ares, series I). It uses single-pin firing.

My strobe is a Canon 430exII.

So far my research leads me to believe I can mount the transmitter onto the Sony hotshoe and it will send the signal to the receiver and fire the flash (off camera, of course).

My only fear is screwing up the camera. I’m not too concerned about the strobe not working. Sure, I want it to work )that’s the point) but not if there is a risk to the camera.

Any suggestions? Thank you so much.

it'll work fine, my old yongnuo's are that way and work fine for the Sony.

That said, the Godox system is super affordable, go for that.

sell off your 430 for the Godox equivalent. Build upon that

Thanks for the info. What would be the advantages of using the Godox system instead of the gearni currently have?

Anyone own the MindShift Trailscape 18L or Backlight 18L? I’m thinking about selling my Peak Design backpack for either of those MindShift bags. I’m just tired of the side entry to the PD bag. It holds a lot of gear but would prefer a bag that opens up from the back.

Yes flash bounce straight up plus white card
So you mean swivel the head a bit towards left or right ? But Still pointing up ?

Swivel it behind you 45 degrees over your shoulder and tilt the head upwards 45 degrees...left or right depending on which direction you want the light to come from. You basically want the light to mimic the light pattern of a softbox placed 45 degrees to the side and above your subject. If you have the right surfaces, it basically turns the wall into a giant softbox and is softer than an off camera light.

Neilv gives some nice tutorials on how to use bounce flash to mimic off camera lights.

I have the Backlight 26 and 36. Really like them. I thought about picking up the 18 but think it will not get used much for me.

Thanks Travis. I have a larger Fstop bag for traveling. Just need something to serve as an everyday pack and shooting locally. I think I’ll go for the Backlight 18L.

Got to be good.
I have their Photocross 13 and the Rotation 180 Deluxe.
Both outstanding.
The Photocross 13 will accept my 400DOii + a9.

One quarter second exposure, I'm impressed with your rock steady nerves. ;-)a

Great close up and as far as I can tell, it's living so I'm curious if you stacked images or is this a single exposure?
