A brilliant capture, Gene - showing something of the creature's natural environment.

That's some lens!

Am in the process of organizing a portrait session that is a bit more than the more casual sessions I typically have..

the 7r3 with the 85gm of course.. and I have my ef35.

though i'm thinking of renting the 16-35 GM .. as i'm looking to include a lot of the environment , but also when I switch from ef 35 to fe 85 , additional AF setting need to be changed and its a pain..

http://www.wirednewyork.com …is_lewis_park_27apr03.jpg (external link)

that's the park.. not my pic linked.

i've shot one of my all time Favorite pics of my own
https://flic.kr/p/rKc7m9 (external link) on my 5d3 a couple of years ago..

I've been wanting to shoot a sunset session there for the longest ,

for lighting I have a pair of AD360II lights.. they are very cumbersome especially when I want to get it high up at a 45degree , and just a pain in the ass to work with especially when you are moving around a lot ..
at the edge of the park you can walk out into the sand and rocks ,, that's where I plan to shoot this , not in the grassy area

i'm looking at two options , the dual ad200 setup (should be more output then a single ad360 but without the wire and battery) as a key and then a v860 as secondary if needed(or the ad360 if I need more power.
or ,,,,,,,,the xplor600 as the main light with extended head option..and the v860 or ad36o as secondary.

I'd prefer the dual 200 setup for ease of use(portability), but would that be strong enough for environmental portraits? this particular shoot will start about an hour before sunset, hoping she'll be back lit by the sun.. so i'm thinking it should be strong enough..

keeping my fingers crossed for a beautiful warm golden hour.. should I gel during that time to match ambient?

or is that something better off in post?

photo session is 2 weeks away ,, wont be touching any of my other cameras for the next two weeks , going back and forth often leads me to forget which button does what ..

lots to still figure out, wardrobe , make up .. as well as the look we are going for .

any thoughts/suggestions on the lighting would be appreciated.

Posted an eagle yesterday (think it was yesterday, my work week, everything runs together) here is
the lake I found the eagle. It is called the in-land sea of Canada and is in Nova Scotia.

Nothing is too much trouble for images posted on this thread! ;-)a

(Actually, they are bee-pollinated, Sicilian Datterini tomatoes, and that's how they turn up in the grocery store. Very professional, these Italian growers! 8-))

I'd stick with the EF 35 and 85 GM combo. UWA has very limited use for posed portraiture. I've tried getting creative, but the distortion on the subject usually ends up ruining to photo. I'd say UWA are useful for maybe 1-2 creative shots to add some variety to the set, but most of the shots will look best at 35mm or 85mm...depending on how much of the environment you want to pull into the frame. Plus you'll want the fast apertures to get more separation from the background and your subject. At 35mm, you've pulling a lot of the background into the frame, so you want to throw it out of focus as much as you can, and you want to pull more attention to your subject with isolation.

Dual 200 should be powerful enough for golden hour. And yeah a lot less cumbersome to drag around than the AD360 or AD600 since you don't have battery packs to jack with. When the sun is still pretty high earlier in the shoot, it ends up being your fill light. As it comes down, you can split the AD200's into two separate lights and set one to key, and the other to fill.

As soon as I get these two senior sessions paid up full..another ad200 and the dual head will be on the way...one wasn't enough to overpower the sun last night.

This right here is why shooting with lights is so much harder and so far for me, very disruptive to my creative process when shooting...Too many variables!

Visiting Orlando with no kids earlier this month, I had a rare opportunity to handle several types of camera bodies, from several different manufacturers at a Best Buy. It was far and away the largest selection of cameras I've ever handled at one time.

Some quick thoughts:

The 5DIV vs D850 vs A7riii vs a7iii was an interesting comparison for me. The D850 feels amazing and is built like a tank. I liked everything about it when I handled it, and then I turned on the menu. My first thought--is this how some people feel when they look at a Sony menu the first time? It seems like if there was a menu worth getting to know, the D850 would be it, but yuck.

The 5DIV didn't feel great in the hand after the D850, and really, didn't feel much different from the 80D. The controls are still familiar enough, though, if I ever needed to grab one and shoot.

The A7riii felt like home when I picked it up, being used to EVF and the sony menus . . . but it felt good in the hand--maybe it was the touch of metal? Also, I couldn't get over how bright the viewfinder was. I picked up the a7iii and the difference in viewfinders seemed stark, although it was otherwise very difficult to tell the two bodies apart.

Being an a99ii shooter, and not knowing if there will ever be another a-mount lens or body introduced, I'm always evaluating it vs the field. I left the camera section thinking that it was still, in many regards, the right mix of a7riii and d850 for me. It has done everything I have asked of it to date, and done it well. But man, the a7riii and d850 really were sweet bodies.

I also tried out Fuji, Olympus and the RX-10iv while I was there. I can see how people like Fuji and Oly, but I would need some good glass to put on them and use to really "get it". The Oly E-M1 mkiii seemed very, very responsive.

The Rx10iv is a tempting body with a nice superzoom, but I'm just too used to the resolution and high ISO ability of the a99ii to go that route.

got one more from this series. i'm pretty sure her lips are not this big before. She's the very first model I've ever shoot with. I was using 60D when I first shoot her.

Maybe she Angelina Jolie enhanced it. lol
