I must be getting close to gear changes.

I found my 55 1.8 box and my 6000 box (converted IR) and realized I may have lost my 28/2 box. I know i have my 90 macro box but haven't found it yet. It was about 113 degrees outside and poking around the garage I figured it was about 122 degrees in there so it was like running into a fire to find a box run back out to breath realize its too hot to breath outside so run in the house stand in the AC then try again.... then I gave up.

I am freaking out about selling these but so darn close.

I think for general petroglyph hiking I may not even carry a bag just strap the A7r2 and 16-35gm with the A9 100-400 and really dont need much more.

I want to get down to something like this with a small attached bag for the filters etc https://www.thinktankphoto.com …packs/products/glass-taxi (external link)

OK dammit.... After seeing this... I am going to budget a lift and set up a shoot with you next year at Goliad!!!! not sure how to afford that but it needs to happen.

 Sounds like a great idea Paul! I'd be down for that. I asked the lift operator who works for my client how much it was to rent a lift and he said it was $1K per week. Then again, there is the issue of getting a permit to use it at the mission. A drone maybe easier though and I plan to get one this year. But I'm in serious need of a NAS.

Today I ordered up a Sony FE 24-105mm. Interestingly both Adorama and B&H were out of stock. No worries though...I placed my order with Adorama and I'm sure they'll be getting more in very soon. Just cool to observe that the lens is obviously flying off the shelves.

Going to try something really radical with this new lens. If it's everything I think it is it's going to become my sole lens; going to sell my other lenses.

Thing is, as has been pretty obvious over the last several months, I'm not posting images much any more. Multiple reasons, but the reality is that my photography desires have diminished. From all accounts - e.g. MedicineMan's amazing work - the Sony 24-105mm is the best 24-105mm ever made and I've seen countless amazing photos taken with the ol' Canon EF 24-105mm. Next year I may want to add a 12-24mm or a 100-400, but right now a 24-105 is all I need or want.

this is the most interesting approach I see you taking. I think it'll work out just fine. one camera+lens makes it easier, simple, and more pleasure to have your camera with you in a smaller and lighter bag set up :)

I would suggest a prime with wide aperture (example 1.8 50/55) for more light and when wider aperture is needed. It's light and wont take up much space.

Man I'm flattered, what can I say other than the EOS is a great lens but like other Sony offerings of late the Sony version is just way better.
You also mentioned the 100-400GM. For my bierds/BIF challenges it has given new life to me=no company has ever issued a handholdable 200-800mm
lens that I can carry and wield.
Many of us have used the term 'triumvirate' for three lenses that can do it all. The FE 12-24,FE 24-105, and the FE100-400mm GM is the closest I've ever seen.

And David you know Poof and I have been spending a lot of time living/shooting out of the campervan.
I was carrying a ton of stuff in the PD Everyday Backpack. I'd put bierd/BIF/landscape/macro all in it.
Well I've discovered that life is better in the camper if I divide up the goods. Last two little trips I put the landscaping kit in the sliding drawer
under my seat in a PD 5L sling. Hanging in the back the Lowa Toploader with the a9+100400 and either the 1.4 or 2.0 on it.

I can wear the Toploader as a chest rig and it is surprisingly comfortable. I can still wear a small backpack or the 5L sling.
If I'm just carrying the Toploader as chest rig in a pocket I can have the little Sammy 24/2.8 or the Zony 35/2.8.

This weekend we still had a small Pelican with 10 other 'fun' lenses but for 99 percent of what I'd ever shoot these three are Bob's uncle.

Here is the PD 5L sling with Riii+24-105 and 12-24mm
and the Toploader with a9+1.4+100400GM

Like you guys, I have shifted to an almost all zoom travel kit. My recent cruise in Alaska, I had the 24-105L and the 100-400L. The 24-105 was mostly on the MC-11 on the Sony. Occasionally I put the 35/2.8 on the Sony to put the 24-105 on the Canon. Having 2 cameras with 24-800mm (I had the 2x) covered was really ideal. No lens changes. Monopod on the 100-400 when I had the 2x on it. 100-400 native I was ok with handheld. But when you get home and go through everything, I've currently got the trip down to 218 images. Of those, 165 were with the 24-105. Next most was 30 with the 100-400 + 2x.

I don't know Bob's uncle, but to me it's the bees knees.

same with me, I used mostly 24-70 f4. 24-105 would have been better for the extra reach but I settled with what I had. 35 2.8 was the next and the least was the 55 1.8. (I may have the 35 and 55 usage in reverse order :P)

My eyes have really taken a hit over the past few years sitting in front of a computer for my day job and then at night editing images. I'm thinking about picking this light up from BenQ.

how will that help? I'm just seeing it as a light/lamp for your desk. I'm just curious because I have the same issue so I've been staying less on my computer at home and I would not spend hours on one sitting to process pictures.

I currently don’t use a light in my office while editing. This light will help. It’s dimmable.

Looks good Vinz. A bit bright on the highlights. Have you tried this technique in Photoshop from Scott Kelby?

Thanks. I'll check it out.

That's not a gig though. Just the lobby from a hotel we stayed now at Bodega Bay, Ca

Just more proof of why I DONT need a 16-35GM :)
Well except for astro ;)

Yah. After 2 family roadtrips I can declare(at least for myself) that if you're only allowed to have one lens on a trip, to me it will be a 16-35. when santa is kind enough this christmas i might order from him a 16-35GM and sell the 16-35F4 and FE35F1.4. is it worth it? i might do it after the wedding gig this saturday.

I have a friend who uses the F4 version for astro, it works for him though with his R2.

i love primes but on a roadtrip on a harsh condition areas, i don't like changing lenses. We were at Point Reyes Lighthouse yesterday and it was breezy, not a good idea to change lens.

BTW if you haven't been there(Point Reyes), it's a must if you are in Cali imo.

i can fit another lens and my Godox TT350. I always love to have a speedlight in case of backlit situation.

I'm keeping the idea of the FE24-105 in the corner of my mind ;) I think it would be perfect for landscape in all honesty.

ps Back when I had the 5D2/24-105L in 2010-11 I was a wide angle person - I swapped the lens out for the 17-40L - Right now, I think the 24-105mm range would be idea. I see lots of gorgeous landscapes with the 100-400mm type lens too but I just don't go to those type of places [or have anywhere near] where I think they'd be useful.
