I’m not a big fan of my 85GM. It’s perfect size and feel and love the colors but wide open is eh

How much is the conversion? I'm thinking of sending my 135 in.

250. But cheaper than selling and then buying the e version

I'de get the GM all day, the size is a major factor, and IQ isn't as straight forward as pure sharpness. The sigma art is the sharpest available, no doubt, and it's pretty clear that even the 135 I use is sharper than the GM... but if I can save the 400g for the GM version, that's a mid size lens right there!

I have slightly lower standards for IQ, something like the 85 f1.8, and I'm happy. If it's blistering sharp wide open, great, but I don't want to deal with the weight/size penalty. Sigma lenses are so sharp because of the oversized elements that mimic medium format lenses basically.

A native 135, tightly engineered lens would have me considering a switch from the optically super 135A. Luckily, I don't use the lens often, so it doesn't annoy me very much.

It was a really strong 'glow' wide open. Sometimes I like it...sometimes not.

Character changes a lot when you stop down to f2 though, but yeah if someone wants a lot of microcontrast and bite wide open, the 85Gm doesn't do that.

SAR says a native 135 might be announced at Photokina. If it renders like the SAL 135 f1.8, I'm ditching the Sigma.

I've been think of getting the 85 ART or wait for the Sig 105 f/1.4 for my Sony.

Or just keep my life simple and buy the Canon version and adapt to my MC11. I still use Canon.

Thinking of buying the Canon 16-35 f/2.8mk3 and adapting it to the MC11 instead of buying the GM 16-35mm after hearing all of the QC issues of decenter.

one of the reasons I've been holding off on the conversion, these rumors....

honestly, it's super low on my radar, and I'm pretty happy with my kit otherwise. The Samyang 85mm f1.4 EF has my attention, hoping they make that in FE.... 500g 1.4 version? very nice.....

all will be better when I get out shooting again  ...... and when I get a drone :p

If it is Native, at least f2 and not $3k....yeah that would have me selling the 135L

My 16-35 GM was severely decentered, which I unfortunately didn't notice at first because I was almost exclusively shooting it stopped down. I only realized how bad it was after I brought it on a couple trips and starting seeing the insane difference in quality between the left and right of the frame at 2.8. That said, Sony almost immediately approved a warranty repair and I sent it off to Precision Camera in NJ. They had it back to me in a little under 2 weeks with a new central element group (or at least that's what they said on the phone) and it's performing incredibly well so far.

I do hope they've found a way to strongly lock in the centering though. I'm not the easiest on my gear and I would be pretty disappointed if one bump or jostle knocked it back out of whack. If that happened, I think I would most definitely have it repaired again and then sell it to move to the Canon MkIII.

also when shooting family portraits with a 135 or longer, it's harder to get the attention of the kids.

I love me some gear talk but I'm pretty much out of g.a.s. right now. My mind has drifted and I'm fixing to sign up for pilot school. I feel long term my photography and aviation hobbies can co-exist if I buy a plane, have a license and fly places for weekend visits. Unfortunately the aviation hobby is a much more expensive hobby than photography lol. Either way lets prime my brain for gear talk:

Now here my thing... the 85 1.8 FE is really a damn nice lens. Sure it's bokeh/rendering is a bit on the rough side wide open and the GM/A both crush it's abilities for smoothness but it's a great lens for the price, perfectly balanced, built well, etc. Love that lens. So for me I'm having a hard time with a few things. First lets get into my now gear collection:

A7riii & A7iii -> adding an A9 shortly
35 2.8 Samyang - Keeper... perfect when you want a minimal setup, great for video
50 1.8 FE this needs to go... not happy with it but want the 55 1.8
85 1.8 FE -Keeper
85 1.4 GM - greatness but my copy is a tad eh wide open but awesome from 1.6 up
70-200 2.8 GM - underwhelmed, not to my standards... going to sell/trade for 100-400
28-75 2.8 Tamron - awesome lens guys... completely makes me happy

5D4 - going to sell
16-35 F4 IS - going to sell
16-35 2.8 iii - going to sell
35A - love lens but i dunno debating what to do with it
85A - love... but see below
200 F2 IS - Sold before and rebought the exact lens from the guy who bought it from me so never selling again period... (ok i might)
50A - too heavy ready to sell
12mm 2.8 fisheye - never going to sell... don't use much but love it too much to get rid of it. love it when I do use it

SO I have been adapting... and I will always need to adapt for the 200F2. That just not going to give up not yet at least. My problem is with any 85 1.4 either the Art of the GM is the fact that I own the 85 1.8 FE and there just isn't too much difference to really justify the much more expensive 1.4 AND the 1.8. The 1.8 seriously makes me happy enough........ BUT. The 200/2 is not a travel lens and I was thinking since I love the 85 1.8.... sell the 1.4's... .that pays for the 105 1.4 which ya it's bigger and heavy and it's going to be funky to use but it's much more travelable than a 200/2. So that is my current debate.

The other debate for me is the 16-35 2.8 iii. Awesome lens.... I don't need the GM. Adapted works out great and it's my lens and why ditch it... but I like the F4 for travel. Perhaps I buy the 12-24 F4 FE for a lighter travel option but keep the canon iii because it just works. You have all the options except for tracking full speed and AF zone/expansion. Well who cares... I'm either in manual mode or just shooting RE or landscape type stuff.

I'll probably keep the canon 2.8 iii

We'll see. I've had some really good images with all the lenses I've owned over time. In the end it's just a lens. I want to enjoy photography but I also really enjoy high performing lenses.
