PAS could get messy

it does seem awesome as heck. I have someone in the family that was into aviation for a while, but he eventually settled for the RV/travel lifestyle instead of flying (hasnt flown for years, so I assume he got over that phase). Never in a single place for too long, always on the road... Very few people I know that are into those sort of things, the one other had homes in multiple places and would fly back and forth with his family.

I figure it's much cheaper to fly on a private plane to get to your destination. I went on a tour a few years ago with the whole family, and they put us on a private plane, which didnt cost a whole lot more than typical airline tickets.

OK, I just pulled the trigger and here is my new computer. I think it will hold me over for a year or two. :-) Delivery will be around the middle of next week.

Question: Does anyone have a 4K monitor and if so, do you like it? I have a 27" 2560 x 1440 Dell display that I'm running now and I"m thinking about updating to the new BenQ 27" monitor. I haven't decided whether to get the 2K version like I'm familiar with or the 4K version. There is a big difference in price too of course.

Congrats Gene! Specs look good to me. I would go for the BenQ 27” monitor. I have no experience with 4K monitors so I don’t know what issues you’ll run into with editing or sharing images.

I love me some gear talk but I'm pretty much out of g.a.s. right now. My mind has drifted and I'm fixing to sign up for pilot school. I feel long term my photography and aviation hobbies can co-exist if I buy a plane, have a license and fly places for weekend visits. Unfortunately the aviation hobby is a much more expensive hobby than photography lol. Either way lets prime my brain for gear talk:

Now here my thing... the 85 1.8 FE is really a damn nice lens. Sure it's bokeh/rendering is a bit on the rough side wide open and the GM/A both crush it's abilities for smoothness but it's a great lens for the price, perfectly balanced, built well, etc. Love that lens. So for me I'm having a hard time with a few things. First lets get into my now gear collection:

A7riii & A7iii -> adding an A9 shortly
35 2.8 Samyang - Keeper... perfect when you want a minimal setup, great for video
50 1.8 FE this needs to go... not happy with it but want the 55 1.8
85 1.8 FE -Keeper
85 1.4 GM - greatness but my copy is a tad eh wide open but awesome from 1.6 up
70-200 2.8 GM - underwhelmed, not to my standards... going to sell/trade for 100-400
28-75 2.8 Tamron - awesome lens guys... completely makes me happy

5D4 - going to sell
16-35 F4 IS - going to sell
16-35 2.8 iii - going to sell
35A - love lens but i dunno debating what to do with it
85A - love... but see below
200 F2 IS - Sold before and rebought the exact lens from the guy who bought it from me so never selling again period... (ok i might)
50A - too heavy ready to sell
12mm 2.8 fisheye - never going to sell... don't use much but love it too much to get rid of it. love it when I do use it

SO I have been adapting... and I will always need to adapt for the 200F2. That just not going to give up not yet at least. My problem is with any 85 1.4 either the Art of the GM is the fact that I own the 85 1.8 FE and there just isn't too much difference to really justify the much more expensive 1.4 AND the 1.8. The 1.8 seriously makes me happy enough........ BUT. The 200/2 is not a travel lens and I was thinking since I love the 85 1.8.... sell the 1.4's... .that pays for the 105 1.4 which ya it's bigger and heavy and it's going to be funky to use but it's much more travelable than a 200/2. So that is my current debate.

The other debate for me is the 16-35 2.8 iii. Awesome lens.... I don't need the GM. Adapted works out great and it's my lens and why ditch it... but I like the F4 for travel. Perhaps I buy the 12-24 F4 FE for a lighter travel option but keep the canon iii because it just works. You have all the options except for tracking full speed and AF zone/expansion. Well who cares... I'm either in manual mode or just shooting RE or landscape type stuff.

I'll probably keep the canon 2.8 iii

We'll see. I've had some really good images with all the lenses I've owned over time. In the end it's just a lens. I want to enjoy photography but I also really enjoy high performing lenses.

Take a hard look at the 12-24, it's so nice. Optically very similar to the 28-75, it's really good everywhere, and the size is unbeatable. It's a little shorter than the 28-75 and the internal focusing means it stays that size!

I love that pair

The 1080 will be more than enough for normal use but if you plan to game then you might not get ultra 60fps for AAA titles.

One thing to be cautious with prebuilts is, they mention a high quality CPU and GPU but often include low tier PSU and Mobo. The PSU can actually affect the life of the other components so it's always good to get a tier 1 or 2 PSU. Also with the Hard drives, you really want Hitashi or WD for HDD as brands like Seagate have huge failure rates.

Otherwise if I was you and you won't be gaming, I'd go with the 4K monitor.

Here's the best part... may end up buying the plane before I even start my pilot license. So far numbers are working out to around 8k/yr to own the plane for just annuals, maitenance and hanger. Then overhauls spread out over time will cost some then the fuel and then ultimately price of the plane. Looking to keep it around 90k for the plane and the entire VFR/IFR will end up being some 25k.

I figured it was the next logical move up from my photography hobby.

Thanks for the input on the computer and type of monitor to get. No gamer here so that's not an issue. At my age, I have no desire to build my own...been there, done that. ;-)a Heck, I just might get a second Dell U2713HM 27-Inch monitor like the one I have. I've always been happy with the colors, etc.
I have a 40" 4K Samsung TV but at that size screen, I think any improvement in resolution is minimal in my estimation. Bear in mind that my eyesight ain't what it used to be either.
