Lee, have you ever been to the Edington Priory? It's about an hour from Bristol and inside is the tomb of Sir Edward Lewis and his wife Lady Anne Sackville. Here's a shot of their monument and the inscription there. The Priory looks like an excellent subject to photograph as well.

This particular Edward Lewis would be my 1st cousin 11x removed.

Nope. I haven't. But, with this years new found out-and-about pledge I'm going to put it on the radar....... We both want to spend a day in Bath soon - Me for the photography, Beccy for the architecture style. Edington is a bit further on but it's also not far from the Westbury White Horse (not great, but not something I've seen in real life yet) and also the old village of Lacock (film location for Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, Pride & Prejudice) The quick glance on OS Maps shows a bit of a hill nearby which may be good for a shot or two looking down & we are also coming into autumn very soon so colours are going to turn ACE very shortly :)

Remember I'm not educated in the pscience of photography, but on the new EOS R, the 'mouth' looks huge?
What is up with that.
At first I though it would take EF lenses (like my 400DOii) but then I saw mention of an adapter.
So color me confused.

Yeah needs an adapter. It was the right move to make.

until they have eye AF I’m out

The downside to dual pixel is that its a pure PDAF system that isn't using the live-view image to focus. So complex computational AF like continuous eye-AF may not be posssible.

The one thing that stands out is that the Canon lenses look much smaller than Sony versions. i.e. that 50 1.2 is not DSLR sized like the Sony 50 1.4.

That mount throat really does look large, and I'm wondering if they are able to employ simpler lens designs because of that. If so, they made the right move by not trying to shove a FF sensor in the EF-M mount like Sony did with the E-mount.

Decided to go over this one again & have a slight change of the colours. I didn't like the 'green' of the grass in the original so added some warmth to it to match the church & took some blues from the sky. I think it's a more pleasing image now with some consistent slight warmth through out. Plus, it must be better because the other half agrees.......

Like them both Lee.
Had a girlfriend long ago, she liked to 'visit' cemeteries.....cold marble on the backside.
Can't look at an image of a cemetery and not reflect :)

Your image has caught a lot of history.

The 85L f1.2 shows that throat size matters, however Canon may have made a mistake with 20mm flange distance.

20mm is 4mm more than Nikon, so an RF to Z mount adapter is possible.

They just added the dimensions to the rf 24-105. Its actually about the same size as the Sony fe and canon EF versions.....The size of the RF mount throws the visual scaling off since we're so used to the size of the fe mount. Anyway based in that and the nikon z lenses it doesn't look like the throat size matters.

RF 50 1.2L is probably a simple double gauss design like the canon 50 1.2L, which is pretty compact for an f1.2 lens.

it's because nikon flopped the release :-P

Canon knew that they couldnt deal directly with Sony, so they approached it from a glass POV, and drove the point home with a USEABLE lens, the 28-70 f2, as opposed to science experiment, the 50 f0.95 from nikon.

The 35 is small, does macro, f1.8, low hanging fruit. Batis 40 looks foolish in comparison.

Modern 50 f1.2L, sweet.

Nikon's whole release was a bunch of hype and spec manipulation....and everyone saw right through it because anyone buying a FF camera is reasonably informed. As usual, canon seems more attuned with what their customers really want.

I really want a 28-70 f2. That and an effing reasonably sized f2 35. Technically both lenses are possible on the FE mount, but I'd add the canon to my kit as a second body for those two lenses alone. Stylistically, I'd love an f2 zoom for wedding work.

the 35 f1.8 is only 7mm longer than the FE 50 f1.8, and 300g (little over a hundred grams more).

It's completely reasonable in size.

the 28-70 will be massive, like 1000g territory I bet, however, many folks will be ok with that. It wasnt too long ago that people were shooting with the 24-70 mk1, which is probably enough tougher to use due to the extreme length and backward zoom style.

3 of the 4 announced lenses are enough to flip a bunch of Sony shooters I'm sure.

At minimum, these lenses are so compelling, it will be worth it to try out the system. Personally, I think I'm over it after sleeping over it, it's a great release by Canon, one of the most exciting releases aside from the 5Dii :-P It's very nice, but not for me at this point, and if this drives Sony prices lower, even better, I could really use another gen 3 body ;-)a

Well I just paid for my new R3. I'm quite excited. I should not be trusted after midnight. I think I got a great deal though, over 10% off current pricing for a brand new one. Now I just need to dump the R2 and the Lox 21 and it's almost covered.
