Toccoa Falls in northern Georgia. "Toccoa" means beautiful in Cherokee. This is a close up shot of the Falls as it comes crashing down from 186 ft. I am working on the wider shots next.

I couldn't decide if I preferred the color or black and white version so I posted both.

I usually go for color, but I think the tones are in the rocks and water are showcased better in B&W. Plus nothing interesting going on in the scene in terms of color.

Thank you Carlo. I do like the contrast of the black and white version.

For what it's worth, I prefer the color version myself. I like the greens of the foliage, the moss on the rock, and the rust colors in the rocks themselves that show the constant presence of spray from the falls. It looks almost primordial there.

I agree with Gene. Too much of the character is lost in the B&W.

for this particular picture .. I prefer the black and white..

the way the water crosses the rock.. looks good in black and white

I often find a struggle with this choice of color vs b&w

I appreciate that Carlo. I was happy with its minimalist design.

Thanks Gene. I like your description of the location. It's a beautiful place and the falls are memorable. There was a wedding that day there and also a few engagement shoots. Busy place but I managed to find about 30 minutes without too many crowds.

Thanks Randy. I'm just glad I didn't bust an orange or red raincoat and pose in front of the Falls. Cliche shot. ;-)a

Thanks Randall. It took some dialing in to get the exposure right to freeze the action of the water but still create an ethereal feel to it.

Full shot of Toccoa Falls which has a vertical drop of 186 ft. It was a bit windy the day I shot this so some of the foliage moved. I blended 3 separate shots for this. One for the long exposure for the water fall, another for the light on the trees/foliage and rock wall on the right, and another to clone out people in the water near the base of the falls.

FE 16-35 GM

Edit: The foliage was vibrant at this location. Still, I reduced saturation of the yellow and green channels.

Boy, talk about your primordial! :p

BTW, what shutter speed did you use for the water?

Thank you David. Yes wonderful place to visit. It’s near a small college. Easy walk from the parking lot.

Haha! Good one Gene. I think it was half a sec. I don’t recall if I used the SR app on this one.
