Sorry for this cross post.... just wondering if other users are experiencing this issue I'm having.

Anyone experiencing the "A7iii lockup??"

Oddly this only happens with me when I use my GM16-35. So far all of my other lenses including adapted glass does not have this issue.

When the camera goes to sleep I try to wake it up and I get a black screen and a "blinking" reading memory card indicator.

Pulling out the two memory cards will wake up the camera or pulling the battery. This happened with the old firmware and the most recent VER. 2.0.

Doing some research it appears this is getting more and more noted on the forums.

As I use my A7iii as a hobby camera this isn't scaring me but if I was using this camera for events photography I'd be really concerned.

have not had that...the a9 sometimes gets hung up when I am trying to playback images, it is stuck on a focus point trying to take a picture...and this Sunday, the r2 must have been suffering from the low ambient temps...it just wouldn't' function...the shutter button was unresponsive...all other buttons worked, I have not sat down with it to try t replicate the problem...

Seems to be more common with the A7iii I think.

I have never once had a lockup with my Sigma Mc11 with Adapted Canon glass. Even my Sigma 24mm E mount has been completely rock solid. Only the GM 16-35 f/2.8 I just bought brand new has been hanging up.

The camera will be sleeping. I touch the shutter button and the lcd gets a black screen. The two memory card indicators blink. If I leave it long enough I had the camera finally wake up. The fastest way to reboot is to just pull the battery.

Very strange as this just only started to happen with 1 lens only. I guess I can swap the lens to a different GM 16-35 but so far this lens has been amazing in performance.

hmmmmm

Well my ambient temps are still reasonable and not cold at all.

Only the GM 16-35 is doing this strange thing! I've even swapped to a different set of Sandisk extreme and had the same issues with hanging with the GM.

I will admit I've not once ever had issues with my other FF/Canon gear in lock ups.

I updated to the A7iii latest firmware update and I was still getting this hangup issue with VER. 2. I'll do some more research :(

Thanks for chiming in!

Alan, I don’t have an a7iii and haven’t experienced lockup’s on any other Sony body but wanted to mention that I think most Sony users just switch the camera off between shots. It was hard at first coming from canon to get used to that but I do it without thinking now. Not only will it maximise your battery but it will avoid your sleep issue. The startup time is so quick it’s not an issue for most people

I've had hangup issues only with the FE 50 f1.8 + A7r3 (well and plenty with adapted glass + A7r2).

I havent used the new firmware enough to get hangups, only a few thousand frames since the update. If I go a few thousand more without hangups, then i'll be less concerned. It was near a year ago since I had the issue, but it's certainly possible with native lenses.

Awesome! I really enjoyed the timelapse too. Very interesting to watch the fog interact with the buildings as it swirls around them.

Hoping for some guidance here..

I have the rapid xxl and orbit Apollo for modifiers..
while i'm happy with them generally. .. I have been need something with more control ( grid) and I dont think there is anything available for them

Can anyone recommend something of good quality , in bowens mount..
I want to be able to really be able to control the light better than I can with my current set up,

this is for portraits

check Phottix and Godox modifiers (also their grids) - you might find a premade grid with the right size

Does anyone use APS-C lenses on their full frame bodies for price/size? I'm particularly curious about the 10-18 f/4. I can't swing the prices for the 16-35's that are out there and I like the size of the 10-18 as well. They would just be 18 MP files instead of 42... -?

Sony artisan Bob Krist uses APSC lenses on his R2. He uses the 16-70/4 Zeiss and the 10-18/4
