This time adapting the EOS 400DOii to the a9.
The DOii is so good now on the Commlite I consider it 98% native.

Awesome detail on these!

Thanks. I'm very pleased with how well the FE 100-400 plays with both extenders.

Another shot from when I tucked my Mustang in for the winter. After this I just put a battery tender on her and the cover on. She will soon be sharing with a rare 59 El Camino. I guess they made *4* fuel injected models in 59. This is not one of the 4, but it has been converted to FI with the proper parts.

Quick snap pulling out of my neighborhood last weekend. There was a cool haze just above the ground.

you got a RV too?

btw I wanted to ask, I'm living under a rock so I don't know these things. Why is it illegal to drive the smaller car during winter? safety reasons I assume?

Just got my a7r III in the mail. Completely mint with all original accessories and a second battery. It even came with the box which I wasn't expecting.

My initial thoughts vs a7 (original)
-Much better mount. I had tough e-mount and this is still noticeably better
-it feels much more "dense." This is mostly positive, but the light weight was nice on the a7 sometimes. It balances much better with my heavier lenses though
-viewfinder and LCD screen are much improved.
-Silent shooting is kind of blowing my mind right now...
-the matte finish is MUCH better for me. I hated seeing the fingerprints on my a7 all the time
-ergonomics are better, but still not too great (in my opinion). I've learned to cradle the lens in my left hand which I find more comfortable then holding the grip and I'll use the same technique with the new camera.
-I prefer the old control wheels for exposure/aperture
-I'll miss the SR app. That's about the only negative (for me)

I'm probably going to take some test shots and hopefully do some serious shooting tomorrow with it. Going on a kayaking trip in 10000 islands next weekend, so I will definitely break her in then.

So a couple days ago I made a comment about how good smartphone cams have gotten. Obviously there are still huge deficiencies in terms of quality and capability vs a true standalone camera, but they're impressive for what they are.

That said, I've recently been stumbling on a lot of articles praising these smartphone cameras with photos that are nowhere near as great as a typical photo I see people taking on ILC's. Yes I know gear isn't everything, but I think the whole culture of smartphone photography has diminished expectations of what a truly great photograph is....

i.e.:

https://www.macrumors.com …trait-mode-depth-control/ (external link)

I think its often alot of "iphonetographers" patting each other on the back.

Yes , phone cams have come a long way,
Of course a good story trumps a boring but technically flawless image of my bedroom ceiling

Is there an option to assign a button to "shut off" the rear LCD on the a7r III? I had one setup for my old camera but can't remember where it was in the menus.

Daniel yes. I have a button I've assigned to go from EVF to LCD with just a press.
Normally I'm using the EVF but everynow and then ~menu diving inside the house~ I'll use
the LCD.

I haven't shown you all my boy lately.
This desk is 4 feet across to give an idea of his size.
He's right at 25 pounds and still has one more year to grow.

Not my best radius/routing job on the corners but Milo doesn't mind.
Above where Poof drives and I navigate is a giant cubby....Milo doesn't fit anymore for a leap but
Rollo does. My project tomorrow is a ramp up from the desk to the cubby...it will double for a scratching
post in the daytime. Just need to make sure plenty of room left for the shotgun ;) Keltec KSG, a constant

Woot for you and your new A7Riii. Fantastic machine. In my opinion the best all around camera that money can buy.
p.s. even plays with the 300PF, just saying :)

awesome deal. it's scary how much cheaper it gets as a used camera in such a short time. makes you rethink about the thought of reselling. original a7 still beats the new with size and weight! :D
