Went looking for a night skyline shot this evening. The first location didn't quite pan out, but I kinda like this shot from the second location.

Agreed, great work here.
But why 'It's also tough when people aren't very "photogenic."' did you have to refer to me ;)

The irony is that I’m not that photogenic myself. There is a reason I like to be behind the camera...

One from Roan earlier this year, finally landed on an edit I like...the color was the challenge, trying to get the softer pastels of that morning.

How about a smile! You look so stern :)
Also still leaves hanging on you by the way, nice.

Haha! I like a "neutral" look for my self portraits but this one did come out a little rough! ;-)a I think it was that I was trying to see the blinking on the camera while looking into the sun. I couldn't hear the beeping cause I had some tunes going in the earbuds.

I rode around for a while hoping to take a few shots. I chose this spot cause I liked the bend in the river and the little bit of color that was left.

I did a photo shoot with a family this weekend. It was my first time using eye AF and I was really impressed. It makes it so much easier to focus on compositions. I also learned that taking family pictures is really challenging... I've done mostly couples or individuals in the past. It's also tough when people aren't very "photogenic."

A few photos.

My son was my "assistant" which involved him holding my light stand so the wind wouldn't blow it over, lol.

Is it possible to know which lightstand (lightgear) you used?

Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't have much greenery in my yard at the moment so I was lucky to get just the right angle for a couple of shots.

Here's one taken at the same time but the sun was starting to break out of the clouds. For both of these 'in flight' shots, I removed the feeder and on this one, extended the background on the right a bit.

Its a great lens. I prefer the rendering of the GM, but the lower price and smaller size of the f/1.8 make it a more practical choice.

Sure. It was actual a very simple (and cheap) setup that I've used for a long time since I don't shoot portraits that often.

-Raven 8ft light stand
-Umbrella adapter
-shoot through umbrella
-Paul C. Buff Cyber Sync transmitter on camera
-Paul C. Buffer Cyber Sync receiver on flash
-Yonguo 560 II flash

I set my exposure based on the ambient and then did test shots with my son to get correct exposure with flash. I raised and lowered ISO as needed rather than adjusting the flash power during shooting to save time. If I do more shoots in the future I will eventually move to a Godox system so I can control everything from camera.

Well after a couple of years with my A7R2 I finally put it up for sale and it will be going to someone else at the end of today. The A7R2 has been a pretty good camera for me especially given the type of shooting that I do but since I've purchased it I've added a number of Sony AF lenses and given the current price discounts on the A7R3 I think it's time to move to a new body. Honestly I have been waiting to see what Sony does with the A9, I would love to see a high rez version of that camera but in the end I think I will be well served with the A7R3.
