For multithreaded workloads, AMD is the better performance per dollar. Sweetening the deal is the fact that the AM4 socket will be relevant for a couple more processor generations - that means updating the BIOS and dropping in a new processor.

Ryzen is their line of enthusiast processors. Their top consumer processor at this moment is the 2700x - an 8core/16thread CPU and it goes for less than $300. It lags a little behind Intel's ~$600 8c/16t processor, but we're talking 10-15% slower for half the price. Ryzen 2 processors (3000-series) should be out rolling out in early-to-mid 2019 and leaks indicate that Intel's IPC and clock speed advantage could be erased altogether (the new AMD processors will be built on 7nm archtecture, something that Intel is reportedly having substantial problems with at the moment). I recently bought a 2600x (6c/12t, less than $200) figuring that, for the kind of workloads I'd throw at it, it wouldn't be much slower and I'd want to upgrade to the 3000-series shortly, anyway.

If you want to go above the 8c/16t, AMD also has ThreadRipper, which is based on their enterprise offerings (which are also starting to give Intel a lot of trouble). Many, many cores and threads to be had with ThreadRipper, but most mere mortals don't have workloads that take advantage of that kind of processing power.

Guys, any ideas where to stay around Disney World? I'm planning a trip to take our 5 and a half year old. I figure it's a good age to take him. Also, how many days would you recommend? Thanks.

Are you looking to stay on or off WDW property for lodging? We usually stay at a WDW resort because it simplifies getting around but it's more expensive

On WDW property. I’ve learned there are like 25 different Disney resorts. Some are super pricey. Haha.

Lol yeah they can get ridiculous. We usually stay at the mid-range resorts since the shuttles of the value resorts can get kinda nuts. Might be ok if you go in the reader seasons though.

Thank you Carlo! We were thinking about a mid tier resort. Will contact you as we solidify plans. It’s either this trip or Thailand in the summer.

we stayed at the Art of Animation On Property resort, saved some $$ that way, and the shuttle still gets you into the park so no driving your own car. Even in January the pools are open...
