YES - DV is huge huge huge and you need some ability to do the landscape with length

At 300 last time ..... Dunes are a perfect place for length .....saves you hiking and you have so many more perspectives vs cropping later

OH and I am going to be there the week before you!!!!

I have frames that come with that beveled mat, is that what you are referring to?

AFAIK, that's mat framing borders, and they sometimes come with the frames you buy. Cannot easily cut these things, need a special tool.

Thanks Charlie. I normally frame with mats, I’m just curious about fine art prints with borders and how they combine with mats. I’ve always liked the look of large prints with white borders incorporated.

Yep exactly. Check out printmaster Robert Rodriguez. He has a great video on his YouTube channel showing how he prints and mats.

Thanks, I’ll check it out tonight

Thanks Alfredo, you answered another question I had which was do you still print with a border if you plan on using a mat but I guess you do to make it easier to fix behind the mat

Eddie, its also good to add the border if you want to sign the image. In my opinion, its better to sign on a border on the image rather than the mat board.

So cool Paul! I will look into it.

We'll have to plan a trip to New Mexico as you recommended. Maybe for 2020. I would like to take one dedicated photography trip a year if possible.

I would just buy a 70-200/70-300 for longer telephoto landscapes. Sigma 100-400 is reportedly optically sound, not very expensive either. Really handy to have one of those telephotos around.

I have to admit to finding the FE100-400 a very versatile lens, I too also use it for landscapes

I've been away a bit

So im basically about to drop the money on the 70-200 GM to replace my Canon f/2.8 II, Will I be disappointed?

I’m very happy with my GM when compared to the 2.8 II that I’ve had for a few years. It’s very fast focusing, sharp, and works really well for tracking action on my A7iii and A9. I’ve pulled up side by side images in Lightroom and mine is at least as sharp as the 2.8 II, probably a bit better. I occasionally shoot it with the 1.4x and while still good, its nothing stellar.

Trying out the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 DX lens on the A7II, with this test shot. Works really good at 15-16mm (especially 16mm, as the sides have less of a "stretched" effect). Mild vignetting (but not dark circles) in the corners, otherwise this is a great prime style lens for the FF.

Our outdoor cat, "Princess" posing for this shot. A bit dark, but still impressed I can use this lens.

I'm debating right now between the 70-200 f/4 and the 70-200 f/2.8 for my A7III while i wait on my check to get here

I dont mind the weight, though smaller is nice, i used the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II on my 7DII for a long time and I had the f/4 before that. Isolation wise the f/4 will be just like the 7D and f/2.8 after all.

My biggest issue on the f/4 is its MM is TERRIBLE at 1:7.6 versus 1:4 on the GM or 1:5 on the Canon..heck its worse than my 55 f/1.8 Sonnar's 1:7...Yes I have the 90mm macro, but sometimes i need that combination of reach and ive found the 1:5 or so MM to be a good "spot" for me

I use it for a lot of things, im a heavy telephoto shooter and 70-200 is a heavily used lens in my applications, one of which is using it for larger flower specimens (or flowers where i simply just cant get the angle or composition i want or i need the background compression to destroy a distracting background) and also action shots of my two Cardigan Welsh Corgis, fast AF is a must but both lenses sound great in that regard... So it basically comes down to IQ and the MM

The biggest issue on the GM is i guess i feel im paying a LOT just to get the better MM, i could easily get another lens i dearly want (the 24mm f/1.4 GM) for the money TBH, but at the same time id hate to buy something i find out isnt going to work out well for some of my photography (Specifically some im not going to be able to test until spring) and then having to go spend the money later on the f/2.8 i should have bought in the first place

I think you want a longer lens in the bag...I will be using the 70-200 a lot I am sure.

With nearly calm winds, fog formed this morning across the South Texas Coastal Bend. I was able to capture this scene, as the fog was starting to burn off.

Sony A7II - Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L II (shot at f/18, 8 seconds exposure, ISO 100).

I keep seeing some nice sample images from the Sony FE 24mm f1.4 lens. Looks like a great lens. Anyone considering getting it?
