Yeah I agree with you, I held off from upgrading from the A7R2 but after using it over the last month it really does feel like a different camera, well worth the upgrade for me.

It looks as though everyone has found the step from the A7Rii to the A7Riii a big jump, I guess my lens line-up may be staying the same for a while longer

Hey everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. I have been following this thread since it was created and finally decided to make an account and start posting. As a long time Canon shooter, I have to say the switch to Sony has been amazing. My only native mount lens at the moment is the 50 Art, but I am having a blast with this combo. I appreciate all the discussion and image posting that goes on in here, and I hope to contribute to that.

Ben

Thanks so much! I'm almost halfway through dental school, and use photography as my outlet with the very limited free time that we have. I have a few classmates on military scholarships and admire what you guys do.

I have a hard time using the R1 after using the R3. surprised I managed several years with it hehe

Wow got home yesterday evening to 10 inches of snow in our driveway...campervan made it up half-way, shoveled

No big deficiencies in gear leaving me wanting more and I've actually paired my kit down quite a bit.

I thought I was done this year but the CV110 APO is really peaking my interest I even put my Zeiss 100 Makro Planar on the buy and sell board to fund it.:-)

no filter thread is a no go to me. thanks.

There is a holder/filter set made for that lens by NiSi. It’s not exactly compact or cheap, but from the reviews I’ve seen it works well. It also has a pretty neat magnetic mounting system.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com …D_BwE&lsft=BI%3A514&smp=Y (external link)

Fotodiox makes a cheaper one as well.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com …EAQYASABEgLVOPD_BwE&smp=Y (external link)

Still, not nearly as convenient as having a 16-35 with a screw on filter that’ll work with other lenses, but if you really need wider than 16mm there are a couple of options for filters. Personally, that’s a bit too involved of a filter system (mechanically and monetarily) for me to get into since I know I wouldn’t use it much.

there's one by bombo if you trim the hood that will do 100mm filters.

I'm considering it since I still have filter system, all I would need is an adapter ring along with the trimming.

testing out my new rokinon 50mm f1.4, just got the lens this afternoon, kinda noisy compared to the 35mm f1.4 but the depth of field at f1.4 is so fun

Elmendorf Lake is typically not a sunrise spot but things lined up in my favor this particular cold morning. We do some great sunsets from this lake though.

Yeah, it is a kind of noisy but it’s about the same as some of the older micro motor lenses like the Canon EF 50 1.4 or my Tamron 90mm Macro (EF Mount) I have, maybe just more higher pitched. Too bad they didn’t put the silent AF of the 35 in it, but it doesn’t bug me too much. I don’t often shoot where I need to be completely silent and I don’t do much video either. If I did I might have looked elsewhere. I can’t fault the image quality though, since it seems just as sharp as the Rokinon 35mm 1.4 I have after a few quick tests. I was a little worried after watching Dustin Abbott’s review where it was very soft.

The Samyang Lens Station should be here in a few days. It finally arrived in NYC (from Japan) today, so I’ll be able to play around with that soon and see if it changes anything.

Lee - Did your free Manfrotto monopod arrive? Mine appeared today. Seems quite decent (especially for free!)

On another note I eventually got round to upgrading the adobe suite to CC on my editing laptop today after paying for the subscription for 2 months. Seems to have worked well and ive transferred my actions, export presets and filters successfully
