Thanks Gene and David. I'm been happy with the IQ of the M2P overall.

---------------

I couldn't make up my mind on this image so I'll post two versions. Shot with the Loxia 85. The detail in the water droplets looks great when viewed large.

My pick is the first one both winners though.

Functions you may not know about when using the Multi-Selector on the a7rIII and a9.

I am beyond confused. I got the 90mm macro but for some reason it's locked in MF and won't AF. I mapped the focus hold button to MF/AF switch but it does nothing. It's greyed out in the menu too :(

Any ideas?

EDIT: I just noticed that AF switch at the end of the lens, so stupid!!! I kept looking for a button like on the 85 or my Canon lenses....

Anyone here use the C/Y 100-300 for landscapes? I’m looking for a landscape Tele zoom and the 100-400 GM is too expensive right now. Priority is image quality. Any other suggestions? Ideal budget is $500-$800.

I had it but sold it recently. It’s an amazing lens but I wasn’t using it enough

Some first impressions of the 90mm Macro

  • The build quality is really nice. I'm still not fond of the way AF is switched on and off as well as the aperture ring.
  • I read reviews saying the bokeh is nicer at f4 and I have to agree. The shape of the bokeh balls wide open is quite strange and luckily I usually shoot at f/4 so I won't notice it that much.
  • Sharpness wise it is very impressive. I personally don't feel it blows away the 100L like many reviews led people to believe (some were done in very unfair testing conditions like 90mm on a A7R3 and 100L on a 5D3). I can see myself using the lens a lot and I'm becoming more and more happy with the Sony system.

Considering this is a G lens and the new 35mm f/1.8 is rumored to be a G lens, I hope the price of it will be the same at the highest but hopefully cheaper around 1K AUD or less.

Sounds promising for you :) As soon as the 35mm rumour is more definite I'm going to be selling the FE35/2.8 I think. I may even let it go before.

First proper day out with the CV21

Yeah I decided to sell my 35mm already since there's supposedly a press conference for Jan which they think it will be announced. Either way, with the RF 35mm out now the sooner I sell off my EF lenses the better.

Probably my last upload with the 100L

LOL...I had the same issue when I rented the 90 Macro. I had to Google it, since rentals don't come with a manual or anything.

I really enjoyed my time with the 90mm, but I wasn't as pleased with it for portraits like the 100L, that lens is just really good at portraits, and doesn't have to be stopped down.

You have no idea how stupid I felt once I realized. I was looking on both sides of the lens, I was even twisting my neck to look under the lens while it was on the tripod. I was so scared I got a DOA lens haha. As soon as I looked at the manual I realized too.

So you still have yours? I mainly switched because I know once the RF version is out I'll lose value on my EF lenses. Some patents for an RF 90mm L Macro have shown up so it seems I sold it at the right time. The 100L definitely was great for portraits, such a versatile lens.

Getting the a7iii today and the Tamron 28-75 in on Sunday, and looking forward to giving them a proper testing. Going to be interesting to see the results, cause at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

Here’s an example of where I’m talking about where I thinking the better AF system in the a7iii and possibly Eye AF would come in handy. Granted it’s taken with a 1.8 lens wide open, so I attribute some to that and ever so slight movement could cause a focus shift, not sure if I’m expecting too much, or whether the AF/Eye AF would give me a different result.

First shot looked crisp, second shot taken in succession looks to have blur/soft. Not as noticeable when viewed full screen and showing to my wife she says there’s no difference. Both taken with a 50mm 1.8, 1/250 SS, ISO720. Granted it’s pretty close up, so I get that it’s thin DoF as well, just would be interested to see if the results with the a7iii would differ as much.

I felt like a complete ID10T...but once I realized how it worked, I thought it was great for that lens.

I only rented the 90mm, I was going out to Old Car City, and macro and textures were the subject, and I don't do a lot of that kind of stuff. So I don't own a Macro Lens, and TBH if I did want to own one, it would be hard to not get the 100L, I have never used it on the Sony, only in my Canon days.

Trouble is they are struggling to sell over here for anywhere near £400!! I might just go in low at around £350 just to sell it!

I've really enjoyed my FE 90G macro lens for both macro and portraits and is my most used lens. I've never owned the 100L though so I can't compare the two.

Any of you guys using Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro? Is there a standout reason to buy one over the other (I’m a Mac user so can use either).
