A99II

Haha! That would be a great one, but I'll be sticking with just one system (e-mount). :)

Now David, after I get the a7000 ask me this question again!

Oh wow....[Slaps forehead] hadn't even been thinking aps-c. a7000 could be a great solution.

^Amazing shots those are! Just amazing how sharp that 100-400mm is.

David, I like your new logo. Looks clean. Sorry I can't help with the gear choice as I don't shoot wildlife.

Thanks! A work in-progress, but I'm liking the conceptual direction and will be contemplating tweaking over the next days/weeks.

Darn, another really beautiful drone image from you to make my head spin back in another direction. There are just so many landscape POVs around here I'd dearly love to shoot but can't access them from the ground.

The tall pine trees obscure your view. I think a drone would help open up new perspectives. I know it certainly has helped me.

They really do. I miss the wide open prairie of the Kansas Flint Hills, but around here I make use of lake/river edges to provide an opening. Just getting above the tree line could offer so many more opportunities.

Begs the question what to do with the a9 when the a7000/mini-a9 gets here (if it does), but a9 will still have a role, again for the low light and dark skies.

AND yes you new avatar looks great!

I liked the ducks happily swimming in the mist in this shot. I was hoping to get a sun star through the grass but it didn't happen. Oh well.

^Beautiful! :)

OK, I'm putting a Mavic Pro II on my list. It may have to bump something off my shopping list, but I'm realizing I need it.

Thanks David. Good call on the Mavic! I think you’ll enjoy it.

I think its mostly useful for still-life. I've tried using it outdoors on a tripod and have encountered the colored pixels when things move even a little bit. Granted my tripods aren't the best, but even the slightest bit of movement (like trees swaying in wind) will create nasty artifacts.

not a tripod issue for sure, it's next to useless with longer lenses that would introduce any sort of atmospheric distortion. It has very limited use, generally for closer foreground and very still life.

Always regret selling the a99ii. Sold to my personal physician who as still using a circa 1998 Nikon. He was amazed
going from an ISO limit of 800 to over 50K :)
Here's my favorite shot from the a99ii-

So a9 AF/AF-C tracking versus cropability of the A7Riii.
For this next shot I switched from using the a9 to the A7Riii. The a9 was getting many many shots but cropping in left mush. It took many more tries
with the A7Riii but at least I got something-

So out west couple a weeks ago for the long distance hail-Mary's I'd use the D500 for the pixel density of the crop sensor. It gave me several keepers the a9 would not have with its pixel challenged density eh, but the a9+100-400 was primo for close to mid distance.

So David, ask yourself how far will your targets be mostly. How long is the glass you'll be using?

If I wanted a do it all it'd be the A7Riii hands down but the a9 for the mid-distance shots and for Milky Way is the better choice.
I experienced the same with the 1DXii vs. the 7Dii, many more keepers with the 7Dii because of cropability, which begs the next question-how much light
do you think you'll have when wildlifing? 1DXii would give me low light/high ISO images when the 7Dii could not.

A coworker asked me just the other night, knowing (he looks at my Flickr stream) I'm also using Nikon, if I planned on migrating to Nikon.
Here's my answer (a9+100-400GM)...from the trip out west a couple of weeks ago-

My cousin went on vacation and didn't get any Santa shots, and Christmas is over, so had to rent a costume and use my home for the shoot. Great fun having Santa over.

Since I loaned out so much gear, 24-240 was all I had, and it did a great job. SOOC

When I first started to plan my trip to Seattle, I was hoping to get out to Olympic NP...but it was mostly closed for the season, and I figured that I had little to no chance of seeing any ferns or moss covered trees...but at the lower altitude entry road to Mt. Rainier, there was a little patch of them every now and then. After passing a couple, we saw this one and turned around and then spent 30 minutes or so playing in the roadside jungle. I liked the light through the trees onto this one patch of ferns.
