Haha well in that case you made a good choice :p

My goal this year is to use that lens at least once a week. I love the 85mm focal length but I feel my creativity limits my use with it so that's something I want to work on.

I love it too. Mainly for car stuff. But I haven't used the Escort or been to any car events/meets since September......!!

Would you guys rent the FE 100-400 or 70-200 f4 for a landscape trip? Thanks.

Optically I’d go with 100-400mm GM along with your 16-35mm GM. Spectacular lens and the 200-400 range permits more composition options. BUT, it is bigger and heavier, and the 70-200mm would certainly be great as well. Tough call.

I do to :-) I would say that that my usual day out kit consists of 16-35mm f4, 55m f1.8 and the 100-400. Covers most of the eventualities I would need :-)

Thanks David. I’m used to carrying the Canon 70-200 II f2.8 which was a beast. I imagine the 100-400 is equal in weight. But my back would certainly welcome the lighter 70-200 f4.

Oh I forgot to mention that my Canon 24mm TSE is also staying home.

Sounds like a great combo.

Let’s see if this works. Would love to have an Osmo Pocket on my excursions to capture events like this.

Don't forget about a tripod plate for the 100-400. Totally obvious, I know, but dpreview reviewed the FE 400mm GM and they drove off to make their review forgetting about the tripod plate! I guess that's how you know the reviewers aren't serious about landscape photography. :)

Thanks Eddie. Sunrise was amazing. I was flying my drone when the color started. I had to make a quick decision on whether to continue flying or land and shoot from the ground. I chose to land after capturing that pano I posted yesterday. I scrambled to get into position in front of the dead trees with the reflection. I have the images loaded on my PC and will take my time to edit them later this week. The light was changing so quickly so I just went on instinct on my compositions.

Great tip David. I still have one from my Canon 70-200. I wonder if it will fit. I wonder if borrowlenses rents that plate.

This is 2019 #1 National HS recruit and University of Memphis commit James Wiseman. James is only 7'1", bless his heart........:-)
I photograph most of my sports shots with a Canon 1dx but sometimes it has issues with black uniforms. I must say the A7III nails it.

Thanks, that makes sense. I updated my original post with another option. Any thoughts on giving up the 70-200 and using a second Sony body instead of my Nikon?

Just keep in mind that it’s been said that the color is slightly different from the a7riii and the a7iii. How true this is, I’m not sure since I never shot with the riii. Might be worth getting two of the same bodies.

I guess you could use motivator to get out and use both the lens and car!

After several mornings of frost, it's good to see the hummingbirds back.
