Ridiculous. Notice how quickly it acquires the eye, intelligently tracks objects near the eye when its lost, and quickly re-acquires the eye when its found. It got tripped up by the glove once when it was near her face and she pulled her hand back for a swing...but overall really impressive. Even crazier is the fact that when the video switches to the girl in grey at the 40 second mark, the initial focus acquisition was actually on the leg of the girl, but the AF system recognizes that its pointed on a person and immediately prioritized her eye once the tracking started. VERY smart AF system that greatly minimizes the need to toggle AF points.

It's an abusive test case, but this is how lock-on AF should have worked, and there's a tremendous amount of value in something like this for wedding/event/family photography.

I'll be adding an a7III at some point this year, but long-term plan is to acquire an a9 once I fill the other holes in my kit right now.

That's very impressive.

The way I understand it is the AF is broken into three sequences. First sequence is the square with the two verticle bars that means an object is in focus. Second, if a person is detected, face recognition takes over and a square is drawn around the subjects face. Third, if the person's eyes are detected, eye AF takes over and locks onto one of the eyes and a small square over the eye in focus appears.

Speaking of other things here is a different slant on Canyon de Chelly.
As mentioned before, being guided into the canyon via 82 year old Korean War vet
who was born in the canyon and still lives in the canyon was the highlite. He's full
on Navajo and you have to have a guide to get to Antelope House. Here's a spot he took
us while touring inside the canyon (big version at FM). It's a shot that made me glad I
took the 12-24 along.

The FE 35 1.4 arrived and I instantly dislike it. Too large and makes the whole camera feel front heavy! Not even taken many images with it yet but I can tell it’s not for me. I’m going to sell on straight away. Luckily got an eBay deal for £1 max final value fees so at least I won’t lose 10% of the sale to them

Yeah, that's pretty insane. I'd love to have that system in a new flagship APS-c.

Here's another one of my buddies splash into a cool wintery river yesterday!

This was my take on the blood moon last night. Kept it to some simple adjustments... doesn't seem as noisy on my computer as the upload. Oh well.

I actually like this photo. Not every day you get to see the dark side and it's just got a very subtle glow to it.

(EDIT... god the quality goes to crap on the uploads)

Lol yeah it's a big lens. Not a fan of it for family photos. Absolute beast for paid gigs.

I wonder how it compares with the Sigma 35mm Art f1.4 lens in size and weight? I still have a Sig 35A for Canon that I enjoy using occasionally.

From memory it seems about the same size as an adapted 35 art. I think I’m just so used to the light weight Batis lenses now that this has came as a bit of a shock to the system. I’m sure it’s an awesome lens but it’s def not for me on size and weight alone

Edit - seems to be crazy sharp though on centre

Its about the same size with the adapter. Sigma is a lot heavier though.

That’s interesting! I never googled the weights but was convinced the Zeiss was heavier. Just shows how used to the lighter lenses I have got. I’ve been playing about with this lens more since earlier and it really does produce nice images. Nice smooth transition to the out of focus areas. It’s nice having a7riii af on a fast 35 but the rx still wins for me
