Thats another thing I remember. We stayed at Furnice Creek and I can remember sitting on our balcony at night having a few drinks and staring at all the stars, probably the most ive ever seen with the naked eye. Didnt take a single image of them :D

yeah, when you can get way out there, you can get some good dark skies...we only got to shoot astro once on the trip...and we made it count...it was surreal.

I will get to start the editing tonight...it will take a while to load them all to my workstation...shot more on this trip than I normally do...we had some pretty big dynamic range a few times, and I was searching for compositions and doing a lot of...I wonder what that looks like!

And yes...next time, join us!

one of those typical nights where you are looking out the window and think this could fire up tonight, but stay at home playing Diablo 3 on the PC. You look out the window to this.......

Only edit I did was to add a little to the shadows to bring up the foreground. The colour is straight out of camera and untouched. I knew I should have gone out.......

On a side note, what do you guys think is the best way to swap the skies in an image? Any tutorial links? I have a few shots from our trip to the UK over Christmas with super bland skies and would like to swap some to make the images better.

Sony Forum group trip to DV next time? That would be cool. Doubt my wife would find it cool when I left her with the kids :)

I would go back in a heartbeat...so many more things to see...Justin is still there, he went to Alabama Hills, caught Mobius Arch with a moon over it...and is now watching fighter jets do low alttitude training runs through Star Wars Canyon/Jedi Transition. I really wanted to see that...but we just didn't have the time...

A few more days would have been great. I wanted to check out both of those sites you mentioned. I'm sure Justin will do those locations justice.

It's so dark out there, one could almost lose their camera bag. :-P

For me the biggest challenge thinking back on the trip was just picking a few key compositions and sticking to them. I found myself chasing the light and scrambling to get into position. Good experience though and good lessons to learn for next time.

I found myself doing that too...but I was also trying to make the most of it...a couple times I did settle in on a shot and waited...it was tough...it was a little overload on options.

I keep going back to Bert from Idaho...and trying to figure out who he thought I was...wonder if he thought I was David DuChemin after misplacing the razor for a month....https://davidduchemin.com/ (external link)

I can see the resemblance. I should have asked that Bert guy about Idaho.

it is the only travel photographer that I know of that it could be...but I don't know them all...

I wouldn't have asked Bert about anything else....he was an idiot...

It's about a five-hour drive from my place to the Oasis Resort at DV. That just might be doable for me.
