I keep looking at them on eBay every so often. Got this idea of developing my own b&w images from it

I started doing all types of research on them , ..
But i think im going to start smaller ($) for a first film camera , get my feet wet..see if its just a curiousity or something i can actually get into.. and then make the investment if i decide its worth it.
As it seems like with rolioflex , the "good ones" are quite pricey.(like with anything i suppose )

Problem is i know nothing about film cameras .. so ive beem lazy about the research

I have been shooting film off an on again for a while...reminds me, I have two rolls to send off this week...I don't have the desire to process it, don't have a room, or the want...I just like the look of the images, and I have a great place to send it to for developing.

Its fun, teaches you to slow down a little and think about it...especially if you use a camera that does not have a metering function.

I like this one Vinz. I think a little straightening of the verticals and removal of the manhole cover would really put the finishing touches on it.

I actually have a canon xe1 program that I haven't shot with yet (never shot film) so I suppose I should try that first before spending the big bucks on the rollei. When I look at images from the rollei (and similar mamiya) the MF look is really cool. With regards to processing I wouldn't try colour as it's supposed to be more complex but b&w seems doable

The biggest hurdle when working with color negatives is temperature control of the chemicals used to develop them. If I recall, plus or minus one degree is the range during the development of color negatives.

To me, the biggest advantage of using film would be using a larger negative size like 120 film. While challenging, I really enjoyed working with my old speed graphic with its 4" x 5" negatives. Some day, for old times sake, I'll get some film for my mini speed graphic but I"ll send the negatives out to be developed and then scan them...assuming there's anything on the negatives worth scanning. ;-)a

I keep telling myself to buy an old MF 120 film camera... Shot with one for a year and enjoyed it...

Yeah what Gene said BUT as is still an awesome capture...great vision to pull this one off.
Funny. I see birds/bugs and imagine...but when I see structure my vision stops. I need a pill

Look at old rangefinders, very cool cameras.

Hey guys (well I haven't seen any XX chromosome posting here), what about the Laowa 15/2...release date I cannot find??? Yeah the B18 will do for landscaping but for wide field astro it is lacking. I think old timey mechanical focus is preferred to fly-by-wire and the other Zeiss offerings are lacking in FL. So 15mm would certainly do, F2 would certainly do, coma, CR well they are of concern but software can do a lot eh. The Sigma 14mm is also on my short list; in my new world of full embrace Sony I'm just trying not to adapt.
Thoughts please.

Rokinon SP 14mm f/2.4 will likely prove the best choice is my guess. Could be wrong.

Per Fred's samples so far Laowa coma is unusable at f/2, very usable at f/2.8. So, the Laowa has no aperture advantage on the Rokinon. Still, the Laowa 2/15m may be great.

Did you sell your Tamron 15-30mm? Thought that was supposed to be good for astro...

Vinz, this has lots of potential. Grab a copy of DxO Viewpoint and work on straightening those verticals.

Or even Adobe LR or ACR's upright tools. :-)
