I dont apply any sharpening until output and its always based on final display or print size.

digital_AM wrote in post #18811536 (external link)
That’s interesting Travis. I also appply output sharpening for web and run through the save for web function in TKActions panel.

I apply lightroom sharpening in the develop module (does that count as pre/sharpening?). I then sharpen the final Jpeg

My handy, dandy home weather station shows that since midnight, I've already received 3.25" of rain with plenty more to come.

I'm sure Vinz and others have seen even more rain than this today.

Yes that is pre-sharpening. I don’t know if it truly matters unless you print large.

Ahh cool. Well I pre-sharpen then :)

I use 32,0.5,100 and then adjust the 4th slider to taste. (I might have got those numbers from you previously Alfredo?)

I assume you guys know that when you hold alt on the 4th slider it goes black and white and shows what is being sharpened? (Not sure how common knowledge that is? I assume everyone does this)

Yep that sounds like my numbers which I got from Mark Metternich. I just listened to a new podcast with him from Fstop Collaborate and Listen. Mark is now advising not doing any pre-sharpening before you edit your RAW file. Do deconvolution sharpening after you edit. You can do this in Camera Raw or Lumenzia or back in Lightroom. Use the same settings as you listed. Output sharpening is still recommended. Just mask out any sharpening away from the sky or water or areas that don’t have detail.

Any of yall ever have a profile on IG ask to feature your image? Have you allowed them to? I had one once and did so that the friend the image was done for could get some additional exposure for his work...but never one of my landscape images...until today. Not sure how to reply.

I don't know anything about Instagram but I think I'd want to watermark the heck out of any images someone else wants to feature.

I allow local hubs to feature my images as long as they ask and they tag and credit me.

Which hub is asking to feature your landscape image?

Not sure who they are...but this is the link. IG still confuses me. Not sure what anyone gains by it...

They don't have many followers for being a content aggregator (ie hub). There is not much benefit to the content creator when a small hub features your image and in general, any hub for that matter. I've heard that even if a large hub (over 1M followers) features your image, that will likely only translate to a few followers for you and a bump in overall engagement to your page. The one that really benefits are the hubs since it's all about driving engagement to their gallery.

Now, if Sony Alpha featured my image, I would be proud and it would help get me more exposure but I don't think it would realistically translate into booking any new jobs or print orders.

My 2019 priorities, by far, are more about AF lenses.

My daytrip yesterday had a two-fold purpose: 1. get some landscape photography, and 2. evaluate my interest in wildlife photography. I’ve been waffling about getting into a little wildlife for years, but it’s starting to make more and more sense to me. There are some decent wildlife opportunities near me, and some great ones along the Florida panhandle. Seems like a lot of retirees get into the birds.

My next two lenses most likely to be 24GM and 100-400GM and, if I really want to shoot wildlife, going to need a new body for it because the a7R II is a turd for action.

I rented the 100-400GM to go on my A7iii along with the 2x convertor to shoot planes at an airshow of old planes down here in NZ.

I wish I'd tried the 1.4 convertor. It was fantastic with the 2x, but I think the 1.4 would have been plenty enough. The A7iii can AF at f11 with the 2x and was amazing, so was able to shoot at 800mm.
The biggest problem I had was that as the planes flew by, the tracking was just so good that I would be shooting 35 frames panning with the aircraft each pass they did. 99% of these were in perfect focus, so editing became more about culling from just over 2000 shots I took that morning :)

Would love to buy the 100-400, but doesn't come into my budget unfortunately

A different take on the same old pier. This at lower tide during the day. I thought it pretty cool that the direction of the clouds appears to be coming from the same vanishing point as the shadows.

3+stop ND + CPL + 128 exposures (smooth reflections).

Now we are getting the intervalometer back in the mkiii's in the April firmware update, I'm really hoping they drop another one sooner rather than later and give us back Smooth Reflections :)
