Palm tree? Are you referring to that yucca on the right side of the frame?
Doh, or a yucca tree/plant/bush seeming out of place in that mountainous appearing scenary.

Feb 20, 2019 21:03 | #26269 I thought this was Zabriskie Point but it's actually called Manly Beacon. Zabriskie Point is actually the lookout spot overlooking the landscape. I believe Travis mentioned this before on another post. This whole area is composed of sediments from Furnace Creek Lake, which dried up 5 million years ago. Pretty incredible. I captured this image during alpenglow. - Alfredo -

I wanted something between 35mm and 85mm and doubted I'd use the 55mm much as I don't particularly like the 50mm FL over 35mm so decided on this lens. It's really great for travel and as a walk around lens. IQ I've been really impressed with it. The sharpened wide open has been really good at all FL I've used. AF has been fast and accurate and I've only had trouble in one situation. This was here in San Francisco at a place called The Cheesecake Factory. It was crazy dark wit horrible lighting and I was at f/3.5, 1/30th sec and ISO 16,000 but still couldn't focus properly so I ended up using MF. This was the only time this lens had issues focusing. You're currently in San Francisco? My sister-in-law was a manager at Cheesecake Factory and then went to NYC to open one of their restaurants there.

I've found that if the lens is having difficulty locking AF, I'll tap the screen to lock an AF point on the edge of something contrasting that is on the focus plane and that often works well enough in low light situations Yes but I am currently heading to the airport now and on my way to Hawaii. So if she lived here, you have been to San Francisco a lot too? Oh wow, she still operating the branch there in NY? I actually tried that but sadly it still couldn't lock on AF. To be fair, the lighting was horrible and it was a slice of cake which was pretty much all white with no color so there wasn't any contract point for it to focus on. My Canon 16-35mm was having issues focusing quite often too, even in perfect daylight. In say that, it's an adapted lens so doesn't bother me too much. Bummer! We could have met up! Yes, I used to frequent San Francisco a lot. I once worked at the San Francisco Downtown Marriott Marquis. I've also taken many clients there for engagement and family portrait sessions. Although, I have not gone much lately. The last two visits were last summer when I attended a Jason Lanier workshop and a Sony event at Samy's Camera with Scott Robert Lim and Manny Ortiz.

My sister-in-law has left employment with Cheesecake Factory and is now managing another restaurant but looking to move back to California. All white in a dark environment is pretty difficult. That's like trying to catch a bride on the dance floor during the reception haha BTW, Enjoy the Aloha State! Damn we could have! I'm at the airport now waiting to board haha. So you live in SF or near? Are you familiar with the Tenderloin district? We walked through there by mistake while getting back to union square and seen some interesting sites haha.
