Darn I'm so jealous. I really like her. They went to the Bay?

Yeah, Sony did a portraits with the pros event with Manny Ortiz, Scott Robert Lim and Zabrena Deng at Samy's. It was cool because there wasn't a huge crowd. Maybe 45-50 people. Manny and Diana are cool people. She had us cracking up with the back and forth banter with Manny. She's a sweetheart

That’s great to hear! If I do get the 100-400GM I’ll go all-out and get both TCs.

I keep wrestling over which body I should get and can’t make up my mind. There’s a really great case to be made for either a7 III, a7R III, or a9.

I think it depends on the type of wildlife shots you're looking to make. If you think you'll be doing a lot of portrait type photos with minimal movement, the a7r III pixel density would come in very handy. For in flight and fast moving subjects, nothing beats the a9 right now. It really depends on what type of images you're after.

This is the image I was talking about that I was stuggling to get the details in the sky...adjusting HSL for the blues and then curves on the whites brought some of it out...its odd, when I shot it I was thinking B&W all the way...but the light on the canyon wall really was too good and it shows why this was called Golden Canyon...SR app shot, 192 1.6 second frames. Manly Beacon looks quite different from the back side...I was glad we made this hike...I plan to shoot this spot again some day with great light...

Golden Beacon

Yes, I live a little over an hour away. The Tenderloin area is definitely interesting. Sad that it has become overrun with homeless. When I was there for the Sony event, I stayed at the Hotel Nikko in the Tenderloin.

I think my sister-in-law is more happy to come back than anything. I didn't think she would last as long as she has (3 years) in NYC because she is a sun worshiper haha. SF has many great dining establishments and yes, the portions are much larger here. Tony's is great. My favorite pizza place in the City is Golden Boy Pizza on Green Street.

Looking forward to seeing your images of The City! Below is a photo of Diana Ortiz as she modeled for us at the event

So it is only recent that Tenderloin became bad? When we walked through there we seen people shooting up on the sidewalk just casually, a guy standing around waving his handgun, someone pooping on the side walk and all kinds of crazy stuff like that.i had my A7iii just hanging out over my shoulder so I was freaking out a bit but no one seemed to notice me thankfully.

SF did seem very sunny which surprised me, I thought it would be more foggy and rainy. Hopefully she's able to move back soon then! We loved Boudin Bakery too but didn't get to try Golden Boy Pizza sadly.

Thanks I can't wait to edit them. I even did a street portrait of a stranger that looks like Albert Einstein. It's so good that you got to meet her and Manny. Hopefully he still does all those kinds of events now that he left the Sony program.

Tenderloin is one of the worst parts of SF...has been ever since I have been going there almost 20 years ago...

Just an FYI. Death Valley and all the southwest is going to BLOOOOOOOM! in about 3-6 weeks.

The amount of rain and snow So Cal and AZ have just had is enough to do one of those 10 year blooms

Just sayin.

Have you been to the mission district? We read that it's even worse than the Tenderloin. We don't have anywhere like that in Sydney.

Here's what I wrote about San Francisco in my narrative of my time in the US Navy. My ship was homeported at Alameda Naval Station beginning in early 1967.

"San Francisco back then was a mecca of jazz clubs, topless bars, and Hippies. The anti-war movement was already going strong by this time. The Purple Onion was a famous hangout for popular entertainers of the day. Carol Doda and her "twin 44's" was the star at the Condor Club in the North Beach section of S.F. By 1967, Haight-Ashbury was the haven for a number of important psychedelic rock performers and groups of the time. Acts like Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin."

my friend and his wife live in the Mission District...there are parts, like near the freeway that are pretty rough, and its not the shiny side of town for sure...but I have walked through there with them at all hours and never been worried...the one time we walked through the Tenderloin by mistake...I thought all 4 of us were gonna be in bad shape if we made it out...

Atlanta has its fair share of crappy areas...ever heard of the show "The First 48"...a lot of the episodes are filmed here...LOL...

The topless bars are still there but I think the hippies are all gone lol. We didn't go out much at night so didn't get to see the night life and club side of SF.

Quite interesting. I did read that mission district has some of the best food places too but my girlfriend wasn't willing to explore after going to Tenderloin haha. I thought the same, especially with me holding my camera and my gf with her Chanel bag. I think we got worried the most when we seen the guy waving the gun around.

I noticed a guy sitting in a BMW talking to this homeless women through the window which I figured was a drug deal but who knows. Na I haven't heard of it but will look it up!

Is Oakland still pretty bad?
