My neighbor gave this bottle of Mogan David to me so I thought I'd take a photo of it.

No flash, just my bar lights, ambient light, and a small video light from behind to light the liquid a bit.

Oh, this is also a blend of two exposures due to the shallow DOF at f2.8. One for the bottle label and one for the front rim of the glass.

Yup! That's why I'm chillin' today. Looks like it's going to let loose later today and continue for a few days! Winter storm warning through Tuesday. Snowpack is getting hefty! We will certainly be up there for some pow turns tomorrow!

Drove out to a foggy Pine Mountain for a nice afternoon hike and left my camera in the kitchen back home. :(

Anyway outings like this is why I need the FE 24-105mm more than any other gear.

Cheesy post coming....

I've shot weddings for several of years now, but for a very long-time they've been very much a technical affair for me...bring the right gear, plan the right shots, be organized so you managed the chaos of the day. When you think of a wedding that way, they feel sort of uninspiring after a while because the motions of a wedding are basically all the same.

Recently I've really started to focus more on the art of storytelling and less about the technical processes. A lot of this stems from understanding the importance of documenting my own family recently.....and that gives me a new appreciation of how significant what I'm hired to do is.

The motions of a wedding are still pretty much the same manufactured traditions and scenes, but the how the day plays out for the couple and the family is always uniquely theirs and no two weddings are ever truly the same. Plus the emotions of the day are more real than anything else I'll ever shoot.

^ All tell a story Carlo. Well done!

---------------

I updated my website to include a landscape page. I uploaded some of my favorites. I'll continue to tweak it over the next few days (ie dropping some images and adding others). It was hard picking around 20 images for my portfolio.

I would love a 24-105 lens too. Makes travel photography so much more enjoyable.

Even ahead of the Tamron 28-75 David? Is it for the extra reach?

Yes absolutely. On day outings like this where I want a zoom reach has greater value over faster aperture. I need to do a weight comparison though...if the diff is massive it could sway me, but probably not because 24mm and 105mm are very very desirable to me.

I’m second guessing all my gear at the minute. Went from thinking I had the perfect setup for my needs to questioning everything :). Been considering zooms for travelling

Other than sports (NBA: Golden State Warriors, MLB: Oakland Athletics, NFL: Oakland Raiders) there's not much. Jack London Square, Lake Merritt. Lots of eateries like Fenton's Creamery which is the ice cream shop in Pixar's UP. The Pixar campus is in neighboring Emeryville as well.

Edit: There are some great places to take photos like Grizzly Peak in the Oakland Hills. You get a great view over Oakland and San Francisco

Sounds like some tourist attractions but not a lot. To be honest, I wasn't very fond of SF when I first got there but I do miss it now. Well mostly the food like Tony pizza haha.

Going round in circles with the 24GM it seems. Can’t decide if I should sell my Batis for it. This video shows that they are very similar. It seems that it comes down to wether I need f/1.4 or not. The Batis used price is half of the GM new price in the Uk

Is anyone aware of any infinity distance side by side tests?

Is it possible for you to rent the 24GM to try? I know after I tried it I was really happy with it and the obsession began.

I’m not a zoom fan at all (and I have a bad history at keeping them long term), but adding the entire 12-800mm f/4 zoom range is presently my top priority (ahead of 24GM), but I personally wouldn’t be doing it at the expense of my existing lenses.

Last year I floated the idea that I would sell all my lenses and get a 24-105mm, but later decided to wait till hell freezes over before selling my Loxias or CV 12mm. :)

I was thinking of the 24-105mm at one point but so, so glad I didn't!!!

Good thing you made the right decision. What brought you to your senses? Zoom is too big? Too boring?
