Speaking of iPads is anyone using the 3rd gen iPad Pro? Is it useful for lightroom and photoshop? I’ve had iPad Pro GAS for a while now

I’d really like one but the price is a bit bonkers when I think I can purchase a lens for that just about. I recently changed my phone from a iPhone 5s to a 6s so the bigger screen has made using the drone easier. The 5s screen is really small and with all the info around the edges it didn’t leave much room for the actual camera view

Edit - thinking about it more it would probably be better buying say an iPad Pro and using that as the screen with the standard controller and then at least you have an iPad to use when not using the drone. The previous gen iPad Pro is about the same price as the smart controller. I haven’t checked but I would imagine there would be some sort of a holder available to hold the controller and screen together

Yeah, I tried a bigger screen, the 7" Nexus and a hood too and even though that was better than my Galaxy 5s, it was still a pain to see much in bright sunlight. This was with my Phantom 4 so the holder for the larger monitor wasn't an issue.

Of course, my eyesight ain't what it used to be either.

I fear I’ve come down with a fatal case of iPad Pro gas. :p With the impending release of full PS for iPad Pro photo-editing looks to be on the verge of a whole new level of enjoyment.

Ahh, I thought PS was already available on it. I knew I could put lightroom mobile on it but just assumed about PS but didn’t check. I’ve been trying to justify one to myself recently and thinking up reasons why I ‘need’ one :)

For ipad holders for M2P controller, I heard many people praising Mavmount holders.

https://www.mavmount.com …ipad-tablet-mount-holder/ (external link)

I would love to have the smart controller, but it's way too pricey. Unless they come down in price drastically, I don't see myself buying this controller. I am currently using iphone X as remote screen and it has been serving me just fine. Just FYI, some claim they prefer the Samsung S9 (1130 nits) because it is even brighter than the new smart controller (1000 nits). One should also consider the ultra bright Crystal Sky (2000 nits) monitors if brightness is an issue.

I purchased the 3rd gen ipad pro 12.9 512GB (with keyboard and pencil as well) when it was first released and have been using it to edit photos. I subscribed to Lightroom CC so that I can edit photos seamlessly on my main imac at home, ipad pro on the road, and on my PC at office. I was somewhat confused at first (about how these whole CC would work) but eventually found my own workflow to using the LR CC on multiple platforms. For this purpose, ipad pro has been fantastic. The speed is awesome and didn't feel much restricted editing photos on ipad pro. I don't use PS much at all, but a full PS app should be coming to ipad this year. Since it's included in the CC, I'll probably check it out once released.

Couple of things that put me off the iPad Pro is that you can't attach an external drive to it. The other thing is that you can't watch YouTube in 4K. That's a minor thing but seems odd considering the cost. The inability to attach storage is my main concern

You are right. You cannot attached external drives. I think the only options for increasing storage would be via Gnarbox or WD wireless pro or similar wireless hard drives. One of the reasons I opted on 512GB model was to have just enough storage. I don't take too many photos like most of you here, so the storage space works for me. But if you are a heavy shooter, might want to seek all storage options before purchasing.

I've been mulling the new Sony 135 GM over the last couple of days, I currently have the Sigma 135 in Canon mountsand I really like the lens, super sharp optic. Roger Cicala has had an opportunity to test the new GM and I quote " But if off-the-shelf copies maintain this level of performance I will be saying it's the best 135mm lens as far as resolution, period. And I'm not generally a Sony lens fan, my impression is the 85 GM is 'about as good as anyones 85, but not better than' and I think it's probably the best Sony prime. If this holds up it will be a clear case of the Sony 135 GM is better than the others. I was honestly shocked. I ran the first one and as the numbers came up I apparently let loose a list of expletives that brought Aaron running in from the next room thinking I'd broken something."

Pretty shocking statement from roger assuming that he wasn't sent a "select" copy of the lens to test.

Breaking News: The Batis 135mm is being returned to my kit. Would love the GM and I’m sure to be drooling over the images that get posted here, but the portability of the Batis suits me perfectly.

_______________

Here is something from the FE 50mm 1.4 ZA. This lens will never be my Otus (colors and bokeh just not as perfect), but in the long run I hope it serves me better (less heavy, AF, no clunky adapter, etc.).

I wasn't initially planning to post this image from St Marks National Wildlife Refuge, but the distinct layers of vegetation from the bottom of the frame upward appeal to me. The sky is a bit odd in that it darkens toward the horizon, but this was due to the hazy/semi-cloudy conditions that later eventually relinquished to clear conditions.

This a single exposure, but I elected to run it through Photomatix (used the "Balanced" preset), then applied my own custom recipe in Nik Color Efex Pro (which I use on most images).

The sigma 135 is superlatively sharp wide open. Sigma lenses generally perform very well when it comes to MTF charts, but their rendering tends to be on the harsh side.

No doubt that the 135GM is very sharp, but what will probably make the lens great in its typical use case is that GM rendering. 85GM by the numbers is actually among the sharpest 85's out there (sharper than the otus and Sigma 85), but images out of the lens look less sharp than they really are because of the soft rendering of the lens. I can see why some people were dissatisfied with the 85GM because it doesn't have the bite of most modern 85's. I suspect the 135 GM will render similarly. Just pointing this out because if you aren't a fan of the 85GM, chances are you won't like the 135GM either.
