Sony Lounge Thread MKIII (All Sony cameras welcome)

Working off an external hard drive and the MacBook Air will work. It’s just a matter of setting it up right (which is impossible to explain without seeing what is going on).

I bought my gf a mac book air about a year ago.. I would swear that I bought her one with 256gigs. but no its only 128gb..

shes into baking , so she started getting into photographing her food and doing video.. even got herself a camera..

those 128gigs filled up fast of course.

is there anyway to work off of files on an external drive?

I am completely clueless when it comes to apple products.. I know with pc , you can do so using LR ..

she's only using LR for photos and iMovie? (I think thats what its called,, but its what ever movie editor comeswith it)

according to her its not possible.. but i'm hoping she's wrong

yep, you need external storage, works fine, have many final cut projects on external drive.

Yes she does .. she has an external drive she can save to .. But iMovie automatically imports to the main drive .. and then she says wont let her work off of the copy on her external.. when she tries it starts to copy it to her main..

Well have to bring it in to the store and mayb3 they can sort it out..its unfortunate as its brough her pics and videos to a halt..
She doenst like using my computer with premier as she finds it over whelming ..and gets frustrated

the library system with final cut is a bit confusing, not very file like, but you can use external for sure. For simpler edits, look into lumafusion for ipad, works really well.

been enjoying these...our next photo review for our club is Street Photography...somethin​g I suck at...but next week I have a few spare hours to spend in Savannah, my favorite town in GA...so I am going to walk around with my camera for a couple hours and see what I can find...

Thanks Travis! Yes street photography isn't for everyone. I personally think some places are easier than other for street. Hong Kong for example people are always in their own world and never even notice you or care if you photograph them.

There's a guy called Alfie Goodrich who I really like and he recommended rather than going around trying to find people, you can often find a spot that makes for a nice background and wait for people to step into the frame.

Also when you google street photography, the very 'traditional' type is very different to what I shoot. Years ago there was a sub genre of sorts called Cinematic Street Photography where people used Tele's rather than wide angle FL and made the images look like stills from a movie. I think that influence really stuck with me and I still prefer 85mm FL for street and would love a 135mm for it.

Not great conditions and a messy subject means I can't make the clean looking image I prefer for architecture. I like HOK's basic design concept, but the execution isn’t great (imo) and building management appears to be doing everything in their power to make the place a complete visual mess with fencing and ugly concrete barricades etc.

LR CC work completed on iPad Pro. Photoshop and Topaz Studio editing completed on the PC.

Awesome video really, thanks for sharing it Robert. You not only have a great 'announcer's' voice but play a mean set of bagpipes too. Poof is so cute. It's obvious she is the outgoing one of the two of you.

Forgot to mention, recently cut off 6 inches of beard Now only 4-5 inches long.

I’m seriously considering swapping out my a7iii and Tamron 28-75 for an a6400 and some lenses, maybe some Sigma APS-C glass, am I nuts?

Here’s my thinking.

I’m extremely excited about the new AF improvements of the a6400 which will be added to the a9, but not the a7iii. Not just the full time Eye AF, but the real time tracking. I’d lose the FF sensor, which I’ve grown to love, but more so for high iso shooting, not for razor thing DoF. I shoot with just the 2.8 zoomlens right now, haven’t had a 1.8 or 1.4 lens for about 1.5 years now. I’d lose the Dual Card slots, Which I think I’d miss. Af joystick is no biggie, can’t remember the last time I used it, I’m mostly in AF-C wide, eye af.

I can’t remember the last time I sat down and processed a raw file, sadly it’s mostly shoot, share, and repeat of the jpegs. I haven’t taken on a paid gig in a while and I’m much more in dad mode now and starting to realize that I’m less serious photographer lately and more snapshot guy. Not sure when this changed, but it could’ve been that year I had no camera at all while I was buying my house. I know that I still want a MiLC and will never be a phone camera only guy, but starting to think that for my needs now, a FF might be overkill, starting to think that a6400 will probably cover 90% of what I need and like 1/2 to 1/3 the price and be easier to carry around.

Wanted to run it by the group here, am I just completely nuts?

I would wait and see how much exactly are they giving the 3 series in April. Might be enough for you to keep your combo, or not. The 6400 AF seems really appealing based on responses from FM forums.

If you're a jpeg shooter I still think the Fuji system is very good. Reasonable cost of lenses, big variety of FL and the upcoming X-t30 will be a cheap bundle with very good performance both in family video documentation and still image quality. Cooked processed Fuji flavoured jpegs really is quite good. I have a love/hate with Fuji but it is still a good system. I do prefer primes with the Fuji system as I'll take fast glass to keep arm length away from shooting high iso. This is where you must figure out your appreciation of a system in IQ and tolerance to noise. Fuji glass is very affordable compared to native Sony glass. But some of their glass is still quite spendy. Right now the fuji 8-16mm is on sale for 1974.99 CDN (Reg 2600.00). You can buy the 10-24mm for 1/2 that price. Analyze the prices of glass when you jump into a system.

I really do not care for Sony's sooc jpegs as they are very RAW looking. I shoot small jpeg and most cases compressed RAW and post process.

It boils down to your preference to Sony render or not. I still prefer the looks of my Fuji or Canon when it comes to human subjects. Sony has a RAW looking more clinical look that really requires some passionate post processing for my taste.

For the price of our Tamron 28-75mm it's such a good lens for the price. Cannot complain about the balance of the body/lens combo too. I just like having Sony's crisp clean images with great background separation using zooms. If you shoot APS-C fuji for example I'd take the "snapshots" of your A73 with Tamron 28-75mm over using Fuji f/2 primes (f/3 FF dof equiv). You'll have the versatility of a zoom while getting very good image "pop". You'd need to shoot f/1.2 or 1.4 fuji primes to get f/1.8 or f/2.1 FF equiv dof.

You can rent or just dive in and buy an A6400. You'll know what fits your needs and demands.....

Cool shot all the same. It’s puzzling why so many building owners do things like that. What’s the point of a structure that’s out of the norm if you surround it with visual intrusions like that!
