Even at the MFD the FE 50 1.4 ZA's bokeh still needs smoothing. I used simple gaussian blur on this one:

about to get an a73... need something better for video , run and gun gimbal work for music video
'the gh5 produces awesome files but not AF .. fine when hand , its super easy to MF with the gh5 (most accurate peaking of all in my opinion) but on a gimbal its a challenge...

I wouldn’t expect anything before NAB which is April 6th, but even then I don’t think we’ll see it. The expectations are super high for this and I have a feeling they might still be struggling with getting 4k60 from the current body style. Also gotta think that if it doesn’t have a flip out screen (which Sony has shown nothing to show that it can/will do it), it’ll disappoint a ton of people.

Pencil 2 purchased David. Managed to snag a new one on eBay for £35 under retail.

On another note it looks like my 24GM purchase has fell through. The seller has contacted me to say they have been let down by their supplier so I am now going through the process of claiming to get my refund (don’t know why they don’t just refund me instead of making me go through this process! But hey ho, there’s some negative feedback coming their way soon)

I thought it was a used 24mm you were buying?

I can understand a shop not having a new lens in stock & ordering it from the importer when they get an order but surely if it's a used lens they must have it?

Nice! The pencil really makes the ipad pro imo.

Sorry about the 24GM. Jeez that thing is hard to get. I keep looking and keep seeing it not in stock.

all my searches and i'm finding nothing.. well they even said they were taking their time about it.

greentoe found someone to accept my offer for an a73 which I thought would most likely get rejected (1700)

again the gh5 is a beast of a video camera.. (the 4k60 10bit 422 is awesome) but on a gimbal with a shallow dof its no fun.

the a7r3 is respectable with AF in video .. everyone says the a73 is noticeably better (some say possibly better than canons dual pix af)


i've combined gh5 video and a7r3 video before so this should work out ..


really hoping that when they finally do release the a7siii it gets more than just contrast detect AF

No it was brand new. I bought a used iPad Pro which should arrive Tuesday but that purchase seems to be going ok

These are great. Love the sharpness and smooth bokeh. I'm not 100% sure I'm happy with the FE 50mm 1.4 ZA bokeh and I'm somewhat tempted to get the Sigma for comparing. I imagine the Sigma 50 Art is a lot heavier though.

I already did that testing, and found that I like the 50Art better for color rendering, bokeh and sharpness...I returned the ZA...I just didn't like the images from it...and it was no faster to focus than the adapted 50Art...I have decided that it is one that will stay forever...

Is the Sigma a lot heavier lens between the two? If it’s a boat anchor of a lens, then I may as well make a retreat back to the FE 55mm, though I really didn’t love the bokeh on that one either.

Another idea is just to skip these AF lenses and grab that CV 40mm, which has beautiful bokeh, great colors, and isn’t huge.

Also, do you have the Canon-mount version or the Sony-mount version?

looking it up, the Sigma is 1 oz heavier than the Sony...28.5 vs 27.5. Mine was the Canon mount, so I have to add the adapter weight...but I am so used to working with heavy lenses I don't care...it really doesn't bother me. Image quality is my goal...
