Thanks Charlie, was keen to get your feedback on it. I added some of the sound based on what you said on the first video I done and it definitely adds to it. Good idea about adding some other sounds even if it isn’t the ones I actually captured at the time, I’ll keep that in mind for the next one.

With regards to the family I have quickly realised that video definitely is better than still photos for looking back on things (obvious statement I suppose since one is photos and one is video and sound but i previously didn’t appreciate what I was missing out on). When the kids are older and we look back on these videos it will be nice to see them walking and running about and hearing their wee voices which we wouldn’t be able to do otherwise. That’s me got the bug now so will definitely be capturing as much as I can of them.

All of that was shot on the GoPro and drone. I used the osmo too but didn’t include the clips. I didn’t use the osmo as much as my gimbal protector hadn’t arrived in time and with the controller wheel the hard case isn’t useable so ended up not taking it out as much as I couldn’t be bothered removing the controller all the time. We are heading away for another 4 day campervan trip next weekend so that will be the next family video I will be putting together.

awesome trips, and yeah, video is that extra dimension. I still have photo albums, but around my house, not as popular as videos, my wife would much rather share videos than photos to her friends. She has little interest in my photos :-P

I gotta say that a lot of your footage seems high quality, it makes me question if it's worth it to travel with my gimbal....... My philosophy with travel is generally whatever I use at home I should use on trips...... just dont like the idea of traveling with so much tech.

That timelapse with the campervan, was that gopro timelapse or timewarp? I noticed a little segment flaw, and I dont necessarily know a way around it. I believe around the 56 second mark, you pulled into the parking spot and tried to slow down the footage. that part is choppy, but that's sort of what happens when you slow down clips that dont have high enough framerate (hence the popularity of high frame rate videos). Without the slowdown, the transition to camper setup would be too abrupt? I think in said scenario, I'de park and it the timewarp work for a few minutes just to get a one or two more seconds of footage for a non so abrupt transition. You may have encountered this by now, not enough footage at times, and that can happen when you undershoot or end clips a bit premature..... at least that happens to me a lot ;-)a

Been a while! Took a recent trip to visit the in-laws in VA and got an early (for Minnesotans) taste of spring -

Y'all need to stop talking about the wonders of EyeAF - you're giving me GAS and making me want to pick up an AF lens or two. vmad

That was GoPro timewarp 4k 15x. Im not at my ipad to check but from memory I set these to 0.8x in Lumafusion to make the 30fps time warp play properly on my 24fps project. I had extra footage there but basically just cut it with the music so its not slowed down further than 0.8x. I then transitioned the camper setup footage in. I watched it again there after reading your post and I think its the stabilisation doing its thing. You will note in the time warp sections it looks as if the camera is swaying about in relation to the dash in the bottom of the frame but the camera was rock solid in the mount so im guessing that the stabilisation is more obvious as thats a fixed section close to the camera. I think that slight movement around the 56 sec mark makes it look choppy. Not 100% sure though. It could also be due to the way I parked and the speed I came to a halt, not sure.

You would have love Australia then since the whole country has a legal drinking age of 18 haha. Did you go to Diamond Head back then?

If you mean did I ever go to the top of Diamond Head, no. I did do a lot of body surfing at Makapuʻu Beach and snorkling at Hanauma Bay.

Looking at Oahu on Google Map's satellite view, it's amazing to me just how much the island has changed. I don't recall any housing areas anything like it is now from Diamond Head to Makapu Point. Heck, even surfing at Mākaha, there was no housing there at all either.

I was away for a 4 day trip last weekend with the family in the campervan. I made the video below on Lumafusion using drone and GoPro footage. Theres also still images in there taken on the a7rIII that I key framed to add some motion.

Its 6 minutes long but if anyone can be bothered watching id appreciate the feedback. (Needs sound and a solid internet connection to keep the sound synced). Oh and I have spotted a glitch around the 3:20 mark so will have to re-upload later.

Really enjoyed that, Eddie. I do love your stills but one gets a feel for the children's personalities better with the video. But you drive far too fast. ;-)a

Nice family video Eddie. The only nit I might have is the brief, fade to white transitions at the beginning. I suppose I'm just used to black fades.

I think you might have been having more fun at Cream of Galloway Amusement Park than your kids were.

How I wish we had the technology that's available today when my family was starting out. I had a super 8 film camera that shot 50ft rolls of film that had to be sent out to be developed. Until then, I had no idea how the film might turn out. Of course, there was no way to review how it looked at the time in order to redo anything if necessary.

I bought a splicer so I could put several small spools together into one larger 200' film reel for the family to enjoy watching. That meant breaking out the projector and screen and hoping the lamp didn't burn out, which it often seemed to do. Oh, and of course no sound. It's amazing just how important sound is in a video. Be sure to keep some of that ambient sound in the movies so that you'll remember how your kids sounded and so that they will be able to remember how you and their mom sounded too.

I'm looking forward to seeing your next video too.

Very nice. In a perfect world I would rather some segments have less or even no music at all and be about more captured sounds, but I appreciate that that adds another layer of complexity and difficulty in producing the videos.

Thanks David. I’m taking all these comments on board and will definitely experiment in future videos. I’m kind of winging it at the moment and gleaming as much info as I can from Charlie and the comments of you guys :)

Totally awesome Eddie!

I really wish I had the patience to learn how to put something like that together.

Thanks Cory! I’m using Lumafusion which is a £20 iPad app (also works on iPhone) and it’s been pretty intuitive to pick up for the most part. I made that video over the last two nights after the kids were asleep
