Thanks Cory! I’m using Lumafusion which is a £20 iPad app (also works on iPhone) and it’s been pretty intuitive to pick up for the most part. I made that video over the last two nights after the kids were asleep

Interesting....Do you find it more intuitive than iMovie? I find iMovie to be a bit cumbersome to work with. Maybe I just haven't put in enough effort.

Well finally got around to setting up my new photography "workstation" to replace my aging MAcPro 2008 tower. Mac Mini full spec'd except for the memory, I kept it at 32gig, Akitio Thunderbolt enclosure with 4 x 10 terabyte drives. This thing is so responsive compared to my old system, really happy with how it's turned out. I especially like to form factor, the whole package is roughly 10x7x9 inches in size.

I’ve never used iMovie so unsure but I made the first video on Lumafusion without reading the manual. My biggest confusions with video were more on the frames per second side as opposed to the actual software.

Finally got around to watching your video Eddie. Really nice vid...good compositions and tells a nice story from beginning to end. That ending with the mini planet was awesome.

One of the critiques from a videographer friend of mine that I got for a video compilation I made a couple years back is that I overused camera motion when it wasn't necessary for the scene and it became distracting. In his words, if its not an action scene, it doesn't need motion as it takes away from the storytelling, and that a fixed frame when shooting things in motion is actually makes for an interesting/different composition (ie running towards the camera). I think in your video the motion works for the most part as you guys are actually in motion, but its something to think about.

Thanks Carlo. Yeah it’s a fair point, Gene made a similar comment in the previous video which was all pans and no static shots. I need to be more conscious of that going forward as it’s easy to fall into the trap it seems.

The kids are loving this video, I think they have watched it about 6 times today :D . They don’t give my photos a second glance

Yeah I'm guilty of it too. It's one of those things like super shallow DOF shots where you get overzealous with a compositional technique just because you can. I'm guilty of overusing fast apertures too :-)

Who would have guessed that working with a longer workflow would be enjoyable ;-)a

I try to get a video out every two months if possible, just tough making anything if you're at home a lot. Over the years, it adds up, I have 60 home videos in the past 2 years, however I can say that only 30 or so videos, that the kids/family/friends really enjoy, and rewatch on a consistent basis. BTW, do you have a TV setup for viewing aside from the ipads/devices, my current setup is really, HTPC, gotta get with the times and get a new TV eventually. Dont want to deviate away from the HTPC, but many folks like their smart TV's, and not sure how they have it setup for advance playback. I'm not tied to streaming services.....

I can airplay my iPad so that YouTube plays on my tv but the tv also has YouTube built in so it’s easy to get them onto a bigger screen which is pretty cool.

All of my vids are synced up to a networked hard drive, which I then play via VLC player on the firecube, roku, streamcast from my phone to tv etc etc.... it's pretty seamless these days

dang, aside from roku, I'm lost :-P

dont know how airplay works, but I think that would be pretty convenient. Have plenty of NAS space, and that would be the preferred method, will have to google all this stuff.

I'm very fortunate to have a photograph of my dad and his older sister from 1912. He was two years old and she was 5. I can only imagine what it would be like to have a video of the two of them at the beach and amusement park with the rest of the family like the one Eddie posted of his family.

Keep taking videos of your family and include their voices when possible too.

LoL I just have too many streaming devices because they're dirt cheap.

You basically just need an app that can access your NAS to play the vids. VLC player works universally accross all these streaming devices/game consoles/mobile devices/etc.

Just re-read what I wrote and realised I didn’t fully explain. In the uk the satellite tv company is sky. The sky box allows Apple devices to airplay to them. The sky box also has Netflix and YouTube built in. I don’t actually have a smart tv but can still use these features for that reason. What I haven’t worked out yet is how to stream from my NAS to my tv but I’m happy enough at the moment streaming from my YouTube channel
