this makes me think of the original a7. lighter and smaller. would need the updated resolution for evf and display and better af. and of course, better ergonomics. otherwise people will whine about buying a small camera and complain that it is too small :P

oh and would have to go back to the smaller battery.

Honestly for all the short-comings of the original a7/a7r, those cameras were fun as hell to shoot with.

In the current state of photography, camera makers need a diverse set of offerings because the market is becoming smaller, but increasingly more segmented. Also....photographers now buy multiple cameras for different, and multiple overlapping product offerings isn't necessarily a cannibalization risk, but an opportunity to add incremental sales. I'd totally buy an updated OG a7 as a 'daily driver' type camera. I don't need to carry a $5k camera set-up when I'm just out with the kids...nor do I need world beating performance all the time.

Bring it on. I'll take one of those obsolete a9's off someone's hands ;-)a

Out of curiosity, how is the resale value with Sony bodies? I remember reading years ago it drops off quick but how about now?

Anyone here pre-order the 135GM? I want one...going to be a long wait though. I’m in no hurry.

Was wanting a 24GM...and may eventually indeed order one as well, but so far I am really liking my FE 12-24 as my wide lens in my walkaround AF lens kit.

BTW, I passed on an a9....for now. Got some house-buying decisions to work out first. Who knows, maybe I’ll grab me a new a9 II and make everyone here hate me. :p

Not the best, but definitely better than before. Cameras in general don’t hold their value at all. Sold off a 4 month old a7iii for $1,600 cash and in turn the guy ended up reselling it for $1,675 (though with fees and shipping). I think I sold my a9 for a $400 less than what I bought it for.

I think now Fuji tends to have a lower resale value. Seeing X-H1s hit the 3 digits now and the X-T3 is also selling on the used market much less than what such a capable camera should.

I actually think those resale amounts are pretty good tbh. But I think a big factor is also how much prices change after launch. I got my A7III for $3000 but they go for $2400 now so I probably would be lucky to get $2000, not that I want to sell my camera. I bought my 6DII for $2350 at launch and sold it for around $1800 since prices dropped quite a bit after 1 year.

I think being an early adopter is bad in most ways, asides from being one of the first to have the products.

I prefer to buy items about a year or two after launch used. I have saved so much money by doing things this way...
