Honestly for all the short-comings of the original a7/a7r, those cameras were fun as hell to shoot with.

In the current state of photography, camera makers need a diverse set of offerings because the market is becoming smaller, but increasingly more segmented. Also....photographers now buy multiple cameras for different, and multiple overlapping product offerings isn't necessarily a cannibalization risk, but an opportunity to add incremental sales. I'd totally buy an updated OG a7 as a 'daily driver' type camera. I don't need to carry a $5k camera set-up when I'm just out with the kids...nor do I need world beating performance all the time.

As much as I love my a7r III, my original a7 paired with the FE 28 and FE 55 was a really fun travel setup.

Anyone here pre-order the 135GM? I want one...going to be a long wait though. I’m in no hurry.

Was wanting a 24GM...and may eventually indeed order one as well, but so far I am really liking my FE 12-24 as my wide lens in my walkaround AF lens kit.

BTW, I passed on an a9....for now. Got some house-buying decisions to work out first. Who knows, maybe I’ll grab me a new a9 II and make everyone here hate me. :p

I have one on pre-order, ordered it to replace my current Canon mounts Sigma 135. I'm not sure the wait period on the 135 is going to be as long as the 24 GM, I think most people would prefer the 85mm focal length for portrait work, at least that is what I am trying to convince myself of :-). I'm away at the end of May and I'm hoping to have it with me to take by that time.

I hope you’re right, however I recall that prior to announcing the 24GM all I ever saw here and FM were people pleading with Sony to make a 135mm and no one was asking for a 24mm.

I'll be getting the 85GM. is there any reason why I should get the 135 instead? currently my portraits are 55 1.8 and 70-200 2.8
I'm aware the 135 is faster.

Carlo you can have mine as soon at the a7000 is in my hands.

Man.....I really really want the a7000 out now! I'm starting to hate a few things about my a6500...particularly AF point selection.

If I had neither I’d start with 85GM. OTOH, you don’t need both a 55 and a 85 for portraits. Maybe sell me your 55mm LOCA machine for $55 to help go towards your awesome new 85GM. :p

One more thing: I respect Carlo’s assessment as true that the 85GM is a better portrait lens than 135GM with regards to rendering.

If it was me I would get the 85 and use the 70-200 on the long end at 2.8 in lieu of the 135mm.

The one in the middle, the yellow one would be the most likely buyer, given its prominence and its unique look...great shot, a lot went into making that one, well done.

Great 3D pop in this one...he looks like he is coming right out of the screen.

Thanks Travis. Sorry for the late reply. Been a crazy week.

My personal opinion is that if you are looking specifically for a dedicated portrait lens then the 85 GM is the way to go, I love the way it renders however if you are looking for a more generalist type lens that is good for portraits as well as short tele sports work then the 135 is a better bet, they really are two very different lenses.

My ideal long FL is a 100mm. I’d really like to run with a 3-lens FL-doubling kit of 24mm, 50mm, and 100mm. If the 100mm GM was a straight-up f/2 and not a limited t-stop 5.6 I’d go that route.

Wish I still had a Zeiss MP 2/100mm - technical inferiorities aside - I enjoyed the rendering, smaller size, and more generally usable FOV over the Apo-Sonnar 2/135mm.

Yeah the Zeiss 100 MP is a really nice lens, I use it primarily for floral quasi-macro work. I find that if you are looking to really isolate your subject for full body portraits nothing compares to the fast 135s and 200s like the Zeiss APO and Canon 200

Lovely! First shot is wonderfully conceived and executed. Admittedly I’m in wonderland right now listening to Fleetwood Mac’s Gypsy, but your photo - black nail polish included - coincidentally struck the perfect chord with the music.

Thanks David :D I guess it's good that you were listening to it at the same time but unfortunately I'm not familiar with that song, will have to look it up.
