Samyang 45 f1.8 looks cool. Wish it were a bit wider :-) but if it renders better than the FE 50 id be game as a compact medium lens.

My first thought was $399? Not that bad, not too expensive. Scroll through the comments on SAR and it’s getting roasted for being too expensive.

Guess we’re all used to lenses being $600+ at this point.

Outstanding Travis. Composition is really strong. This is a familiar view, but your work here stands out amongst the many I’ve seen. I especially like the capture of the water. You got some amazing clouds that evening. Beautiful image.

Was this just a single 2 sec exposure or did you use SR app?

Mighty kind of you David, thank you sir. It is a familiar view, but I shot wider to include the cool atmosphere over the headlands...this was a case of the 16-35GM really being the right lens for the job, it let me frame the spot by zoom to work with the spot I liked best for the water and wave action. It was a test of patience and quickness to get the water right, got my feet wet a bit trying to get it. This was one single 2 second image, no SR app used. I didn't have time for that, the waves would come in with enough force that I was concerned about my gear, so I always had a hand close by and would pull the tripod every time the waves hit it...just didn't want it to get knocked over.

Beautiful shot Travis. Perfect wave motion in the foreground.

Thank you sir. I found a little knoll in the beach to use to anchor the right side, and just waited until a wave came over it and spilled toward me...most of them came in from the left or across the frame in front...but I wanted one to come over that knoll...finally got it and was pretty stoked about it.

I bet he chose the A7Rii for the SR.

nope..good old fashioned 6 Stop ND and a 2 second exposure.

Outstanding Travis. You inspiring me to head to SF and shoot. I live so close to this place "Bakers Beach" however never photographed .

Thanks, and glad it makes you want to get up there...its such a crap shoot though...I have been to SF a couple times a year for years now and usually walk away empty handed...I am told that September-November are better for no fog, less wind and better temps...we were all cold when we got done with this one...

To me, everything looks cheap compared to the RF lenses lol

I think this is without a doubt my favorite down time image from the trip to CA...I finally had interesting and good light at the Golden Gate Bridge...the fog layer was there, so its unique in that the TOPS of the clouds are lit up but the bottoms are more purple and darker...and that meant the bridge was not lit up...but I still like it...got wet for this one too...second time on the trip!

There's a lot to like here Travis. Water and cloud make the image....golden gate bridge is the contextual bonus :-)

Thanks Carlo...yeah I didn't want the bridge to be the only subject...I thought about walking further down the beach, but with the light not going to hit it just right, no worth it.

it's interesting and I hope they get support for their efforts. It's a tiny lens, and I like tiny lenses, however the FE 50 is right there, and it's essentially a faster AF lens than any SY I've tried. On top of that, it's really fast on the A9.....

that said, SY can beat it on optics and make it dead silent, they may be onto something.

They’re famously loud. My 50mm 1.4 ZA is loud as well.

mystik610 wrote in post #18858976 (external link)
Yeah AF is noisy and kind of slow. It's moving a lot of heavy glass :-)

navydoc wrote in post #18859017 (external link)
Fortunately? I'm hard of hearing so I couldn't say whether it is or not. It is a bit slow on focusing but understandably so.

thanks guys

I hope it wont be too much of a problem. the sony/zeiss 50mm is loud?? yikes!

the original a7 was pretty slow and we all coped with it. so this isnt bad at all lol I just dont like the motorized sounding af. was rather shocked :P

I remember when I first acquired the 85GM I was surprised by how loud it was when focusing but I'm either kind of use to now or it actually is a little bit quieter due to "break-in" period, either way it's faults are greatly overlapped by it's strength.

I don't have the GoPro POV clip but I have several generations of their capture clip for cameras. I believe that would be the best option and also the most secure. The PD Capture Clip system is robust enough to give me the confidence to walk around busy venues, crowded theme parks and even get on rollercoasters without feeling the need to bag the camera. I would be wary of the plastic mounts

Finally received the Peak Design Clip V3 and I've paired it with the P.OV V2. This is a really nice setup and a significant step-up from some of the plastic clip mounts I've seen or handled. The clip itself is a bit smaller than the previous versions but it feel much more nicely finished with nice round over edges that should make it much more wearable friendly. I think the only drawback is I wish it was a little bit wider to accommodate backpack with wider shoulder straps. The previous versions accommodated straps up to 3 inches wide, the version 3 technically only support 2.5 inches which may be a little tight with some of the larger bags. I also wished they shipped a set of longer thumb screws with the new POV kit, the previous version came with to sets, standard and long which were better for straps with thicker padding.

Overall I'm really liking this setup.I also purchased a metal card cage to replace the standard plastic one that is included with the GoPro, I hated having to pull the unit out of it's cage to connect it to my desktop.

My FE 50 is loud and grindy sounding. I asked around on FM and some others said theirs were loud too. I don’t notice it much outdoors, but indoors not so good. That said I get the impression the 85GM is even louder.

Why are these Sony lenses loud? If moving big glass around is the reason, then does it really follow that all lenses are loud when moving big heavy glass? Are the 85mm 1.4 lenses from Sigma, Canon, Samyang, and Nikon all about the same in AF noise levels?

I'm not sure why that is the case with the 85GM, the 135GM is absolutely silent by comparison. I had the Canon 85 1.2 II when I was with Canon and I don't recall that lens being as loud and it it was it wasn't the "grinding" type sound I hear with the GM.

definitely looks like quality, but you should try out the clips, they work well in practice.

$4 is a bonus, I got two since it worked so well with my phone, and it's footprint so small. I can use it as a stand, just sit it on the table and presto, really nice. The clip is solid, and will stay on unless you're doing parkour or something heavy duty.

I actually saw those and was going to order one to test out, eventually went with the Peak Design instead even though it really is a bit of overkill as a GoPro clip.
