Advice needed. -?

A real estate photography company wanted to hire me. They said, they'll take care of all the marketing in my area, all i have to do is shoot.

I'm guessing it's going to be like tourfactory.com

I don't know what's the $$ arrangement yet but what do you think is the best? I like to know some of your ideas before I talk to them on Tuesday.

Not sure yet but I doubt there will be a non-compete clause in the contract. I asked my contact about it and he told me not to worry about it and that it does not even apply in the state of Ca.

TIA

Last night while out shooting I slipped on some wet rocks and fell over. Full legs coming completly up over my waist height and landing on my backside and back. It looks like the the lens hood of my 85mm took the most damage. Thats gone somewhere as it pinged off and I can't find it. There is a small hit on the focusing barrel and a small paint scuff off the top of my camera where the flash hot shoe is just above the Sony logo. The flash hot shoe also took a hit and has slightly dented making the little plastic piece thats slides in hard to get out. I landed on my back with my camera bag on. All lenses seem to be ok. Camera and 85mm are working fine too and I've ordered a new lens hood.

Big lesson I learned is not to be lazy and when moving to a new spot to take the camera and lens off the tripod.

I think the hot shoe will spring back out. Its all fine, but very tight to get the flash on and the plastic slide back in. Gutted and really annoyed at myself ! vmad

Sorry to hear that, glad that you are ok. I'm always super worried when carrying my camera mounted on the tripod and stepping on wet ground, especially crossing rivers and over wet rocks.

I've done it before. Luckily no damage (aside from myself) & yes, anything like that I'm always so annoyed with myself more than anything. I did have my 5D2 & 50/1.4 fall from my shoulder because the strap pulled through. Lucky only marked the hood as we were on a wooden pier at the time!

Fingers crossed no lasting damage for yourself or your gear.

I accidently knocked over my tripod while my a7rII and FE 90G macro lens was still on it. Fortunately, the lens hood took the brunt of the damage and I had to replace it and the end ring of the lens is loose. All things considered, it could have been much worse.

Glad to hear you're OK as that's what's the most important. You can always get more gear, one's health is a different story.

I guess it depends on how much work they'll provide you? I would ask more details like what the pay is, how many jobs per week and all that. It's a bit hard to make a decision without more info and I'm usually wary of offers that don't include all the details.

I’d ask about whether it’s per job or a weekly/monthly arrangement, if you need to do any of the editing, and what type of travel is involved. I had a friend of mine be approached to shoot real estate and the initial contract was for I believe up to 6 jobs a month, with basic editing, but travel was not included. He though, ehh what’s the big deal, cant be that bad. Then he started having to drive up to 2 hrs to some of these places and on more than one occasion he’d show up, but the realtor or other contact wasn’t there and he couldn’t get in touch with anyone with the lockbox access. One situation with a neighbor calling the police because they though he was a home invader as well.

Yes. I'm back to flipping the camera on and off like in the old days.
Would be nice if there was a menu setting for continuous on/off like before the update.
I've seen it work and it is a charm but I wasn't having issues before to be honest.

Forgot to mention, numbers like 1200 vs. 400 don't mean a lot with the a9.
This afternoon I was shooting Bluebierds and had 1400 shots and 75% battery left, but
I was motoring.

But the days of leaving it on all day are over (for now).

Thanks for your story of your friend's experience. Those are really good points.

Good to hear you're ok! I had something similar happen last year when I still had my 6DII and I remember my main priority was protecting the camera LOL.

Wow such a great shot! I rarely use my macro lenses for macro as I don't have the patience.

All good and I'm in Australia so not sure who contracts/employment types work over there but I'm guessing this would be side work and not your main job?

Here the amount you make per job for real estate all depends on the size of the property. 3 or 4 beds can get you up to $400-500 or something like that.
