3mm giant. Maybe closer to 2.5mm.
Used the Venus 2.5-5x Macro.
Used the 'motoring' technique. Windy so the leaf was shaking. Motoring at
20fps; the Venus does not focus, the ring only changes magnification. So I
start shooting and pulling back the camera at the same time=hoping one shot
will have sharp eyes.
Shot at 3x magnification. Everyone knows but in case someone doesn't most macro
lenses (like the Sony FE 90mm) shoot at 1x (1:1).

Looks nice. I really enjoy macro and will probably invest in a greater than 1:1 lens at some point.

I feel lucky getting eyes in focus at all by leaning in/out in Manual Focus at 1:1, even at f11. I don't know If I'd want to even try at higher magnifications unless it was an inanimate object and my camera was on a tripod.

That Venus is much easier to use on the StackShot inside but I wanted to give it a try.

It was a great try. :-) I'm just not as steady as I used to be and have a hard time keeping the shutter speed fast enough for me without very high iso's. I tend to shoot at a moments notice and don't use a flash as often as I should too though.

It feels like I've barely touched my A7III recently and my M5 has been getting all the attention.

You might have fallen for the big and heavy lenses trap ;-)a

I've been debating the hell out of my travel kit, and the biggest lens I am questioning is the Tamron 28-75 vs two smaller primes, 16-50 pancake + 50 F1.8 with a combined weight of 300g. Few hundred grams here and there really add up

Haha yeah I am definitely lacking when it comes to light lenses. My Canon 35mm f/2 IS used to fill that title.

I had always taken multiple primes and my last trip was the first time I took two zooms instead. The Tamron is that great and I will probably always take it with me, but there's something about 35mm primes that I'm so addicted to and can't resist.

I love a nice 35, but I just won't take the weight anymore. I just sold my SY 35 F1.4 and I thought it was a fine lens. Too big and heavy.

The only heavy lens that I'm willing to take around is the 12-24 and Tamron 28-75, similar size and weight. Being fast enough, close focus, I would take the Tamron before the 35/1.4, 9/10 times...... However the 35/2.8 is so small, ide take that over the Tamron 3/4 times...

Not interested in being uncomfortable, and give up a lot for it.

I'm getting like that more and more. I would always insist on f/1.4 lenses but now I'm happy with the f/1.8 options (such as the Sony 85mm).

The 12-24mm and 28-75mm are really good sizes and weights for the focal length they cover. Once the Tamron 17-28 is out I'll see if I swap that for my Canon 16-35mm too.

Very much like it. I had the MP-65 for several years. Don't miss the size
or the way the barrel blocks light from the subject at the big magnification.
The Venus is better for those reasons alone and IF you can get focus it is just
as sharp. Like Gene was alluding too above, focus is hard (at least for me) at
those magnifications and super small DOF.
