So I just realised the a7riii + 16-35GM weighs less than the a7riii + cv15 + lox21 I currently take hiking. With my frustrations at the weekend of constant lens changing when up on the mountains I’m thinking I may have to bite the bullet and sell the 15/21 and purchase the zoom

I was shocked when I approached the lake this year. Here is a comparison from 2016 when I was last there, granted it's from a different vantage point but I think it illustrates the difference.

The odd thing is, it appears to be the shallow portion on the right is what is not underwater anymore, the side on the left near the trees looks quite similar in both images...maybe late snow melt this year and it has not filled back up?

I am in the same boat...going to take the GM with me next week and leave the rest at home...gotta go light on the pack.

I hope that is the case, the lake thawed out a little later than what I remember from previous visits, it was the first time I've seen it with some unmelted ice on the surface. I was up in the Columbia icefields as well and according to the guides up there the Athabasca Glacier is losing approx 15 meters every year, things are changing for sure.

Interestingly on my latest trip I took 3 lenses, Sony 12-24, 16-35 GM and the 135GM, left everything else behind, I had originally thought about taking just a prime set but in the end I went with the zooms and a prime. I wasn't sure I would be using the 12-24 as much as I did and I would have likely used it much more except due to the conditions I had to use NDs which were not possible with the 12-24 so I stuck to the 16-35 when that was a requirement. The 135 was a bear to carry but it was useful for some long distant landscape shots and close up wildlife.

for hiking up Roan, I am going to have the A7R2 the 16035GM and the 70-200...thats it...outside of filters, and even then, i am only going to bring 3...2,6 and 10. two lenses means two adapter rings instead of 5 or 6...I want the a9 up there too just because if I see wildlife the r2 sucks at that...but I will have to make it work, I don't want to carry two bodies up the trail.

Hoping! At this point even more so than the unicorn 200-600mm. I'm set up packing wise
for a 17-28. The 200-600mm would change everything=much longer pack.

Jose isn't there a filter system viable for the 12-24 yet? I need to google that.
We've got 4 Laowa lenses and every now and then I think of their 10-18. I think it is not
already here due to some unflattering reviews but at least they thought of filter needs during
development.

Right now at the top of my get list is the Tam17-28, no. 2 is the 200-600 if it ever materializes.

that 200-600 could be great if it isn't fake news, and it isn't over $2k...

IMO, wide angle zoom is a must for landscape shooters, primes are nice icing on the cake.

There is a number of them, Nisi makes one but they all use 150mm filters which are a pain to use, I have a set of Lee 100s that I've been using that work well with the 16-35 GM and I hate the thought of changing to 150s just for one lens.

Yeah makes sense. That and less changes out in the elements

I love the 28-75 and the 17-28 had caught my attention for that reason. I’m still wondering what to do about that. It may be a better option if it’s lighter and has high IQ. Wasn’t sure how far away it was though. The GM being faster also gives me that Astro option though but for all the times I get to shoot that it’s not a deal breaker

it’s funny, I’ve always previously owned either a 17-40 or a 16-35. It’s only since Sony that I haven’t. I’ve shot some of my favourite landscapes ever with the Loxia 21 though which is giving me pause.

Maybe the answer is sell the cv15, keep the Loxia and buy the Tamron

So the 100mm filters are too small? Vignetting?
