WhyFi wrote in post #18890620 $750, hmmm? If that holds, it'd be a bit of a disappointment for me. $400-500 would be much preferable, even if it means f/2.
Personally, my FE 28/2 is pretty damn good and only cost me $315, so I'd be looking at returning/selling it and adding $435? Ehhhhh.
Edited to add: the AF/MF switch and focus lock button would be a nice addition, though.
I like the 28/2, been using it, and works well on lowly 24mp bodies, struggles a bit on 42mp bodies, and zooms like the Tamron feels even stronger (a stop slower), than the 28 prime. Still a lot to like about that lens.
It looks like Sony is turning over a new leaf and making high end optics as "normal" lenses, started with the FE85 I think. Super impressive optics, and this 35 has similar design cues, and Sony touting corner to corner sharpness....
It looks to me that this will be a high end optic, being able to satisfy both APS-C and FF users. It may be their strategy going forward, simply ditch all APS-C glass, and make compelling, light weight lenses that satisfy both formats.
While the price is higher than the Canon, it's internal zoom, weather sealed, and deserves decent premium for those features. Price still feels too high for my liking, and I'll get it one day when price drops.
promo video looks good

I read that it's due to the Trump Tarrifs
Prices lower elsewhere? Not sure if true, someone posted on FM

TRhoads wrote in post #18890603 Alabama Hills will be a must this time. I also really want to check out Eureka Dunes, its a bit of a haul but less people.
Alabama Hills, just don't make our routing/scheduling mistake and arrive there at noon But we did have 20 targets on that trip.
But you know a place is special if at high sucking noon Sun and it's still remarkable. And you got me reflecting on a old fav of mine, the NEX-7....anyone remember the Tri-navi buttons on it? Loved them.
Of course any wide field astro would be awesome there and I bet it is cool there at night.
Bill in Texas wrote in post #18890615 Neat stuff! I was into telescopes a few years ago and had to decide which glass I wanted to invest in. You know which won out.
Bill I've got a big rig/concrete pillar out back but cannot use it with the weather we have here. 50% of nights I'm in the hospital. Full Moon threatens the other 50% and then the never ending clouds. So the big rig sits. At least with this setup when we do travel I'll have that option. Plus the rig pictured with the Redcat weighs less than just the AVX mount for the big scopes. Now, learning how to manage the little Ioptron iPolar is another matter, which reminds I need to call their support line
New 35/1.8 a no brainer. Assuming as good as the 85/1.8, no doubts there. As always the weight it what appeals to me and Poof. Like Charlie I'll wait a bit on it though. Still a bit too wide for bierds.
MedicineMan4040 wrote in post #18890537 Lens updates. I just updated firmware on sam/rok 45/1.8 and 24/2.8 via the hockey puck. Super easy. Improvements? I don't know...nothing to really complain about before. Supposed to address the infinity focus on the 45/1.8. More I use sam/roks the more I like them
Tamron 17-28 shipping updated to: Expected availability: Jul 26, 2019
Redcat arrived. Part of a travel astro rig I've been building (campervan, Poof has a trip out west next summer scheduled. Getting the parts/pieces is easy but astro photography loves software and drivers for polar alignment/tracking. Gene this rig is so little and lightweight even people with little yard space can apply. Here's the cat on the a7Riii. And a pic posted a long time ago of what the A7Rii can do with little effort (in the city backyard with lots of light pollution--Bortle 6, and only 10 subs for integration and there were jpg!)-
Forgot to mention, keep eye out for Sony RX100vii(7). It will be a taste of what the a9ii will be like (50fps) woot!

Lens looks good. Nice quality. Size reasonable and weight is lovely! 58mm filters would have been better for me though...
That price though..... I said months ago it had to come in pretty expensive because of the Zony 2.8...... It puts it out of my reach. Well, not out of my reach, but more than I'd want to spend because of the CV40 1.2E (and the Samyang 35/2.8 - wherever that is..... I think Keiran has it!)
As nice as that looks...I still want the f1.4...I have not used my 50ART in ages, and will likely unload it to pick up a 35 f/1.4. That smaller one is tempting though, a lot less expensive.

I love what I get out of my ZF.2 Distagon 35/1.4... but **** is it a load. Okay, it's not *that* bad, but it's bad enough that I leave it at home occasionally, in which case optical qualities are irrelevant. The Zony 35/1.4 and Sigma are large/heavy, too, I assume?
That said, selling my Distagon and getting the Sony 35/1.8 would be close to the same money... not sure how I'd feel about that. Also. the 35/1.8 looks sharp, but not seeing the kind of pop that I get out of the ZF.2. Need more sample images.
Bill is my name - I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.
The price of glass is going up. The Nikon 35mm 1.8s for the Z cameras is $850. I would’ve liked this to be $599 or so tops, but not outrageous. It’ll make people think between this or investing in the 1.4 and still leaves room for a future 1.4 GM:

the f/1.4 ZA is a bigger lens, but I kinda like that...I don't have small hands, and find it harder to hold these little tiny lenses...

why are you holding the lenses and not the camera
