I’m being super lazy here but...

Does the 85 1.8 have a focus hold button and is it the same thread size as this new 35?

Lens updates.
I just updated firmware on sam/rok 45/1.8 and 24/2.8 via the hockey puck.
Super easy. Improvements? I don't know...nothing to really complain about before.
Supposed to address the infinity focus on the 45/1.8.
More I use sam/roks the more I like them :)

Tamron 17-28 shipping updated to: Expected availability: Jul 26, 2019

Redcat arrived. Part of a travel astro rig I've been building (campervan, Poof has a trip out west
next summer scheduled. Getting the parts/pieces is easy but
astro photography loves software and drivers for polar alignment/tracking. Gene this rig is so little
and lightweight even people with little yard space can apply. Here's the cat on the a7Riii. And a pic posted
a long time ago of what the A7Rii can do with little effort (in the city backyard with lots of light pollution--Bortle 6, and
only 10 subs for integration and there were jpg!)-

Forgot to mention, keep eye out for Sony RX100vii(7). It will be a taste of what the a9ii will be like (50fps) woot!

Well, I have cancelled my preorder of the FE 200-600 lens for now so I may have to give the Redcat a 2nd look as well as the Sky Guider Pro.

Oh, I've heard that Saturn will be the closest to earth tonight than it will be all year. I'll have to check what the weather here will be and when will Saturn rise in my area.

the f/1.4 ZA is a bigger lens, but I kinda like that...I don't have small hands, and find it harder to hold these little tiny lenses...

Yeah, I don't mind the size at all, it's only a little bigger than my C/Y 35-70, but it's weight. IIRC, it's something like 800g. It's not oppressive, but it's enough that I'll leave behind in favor of something lighter for day-to-day stuff (I'll lug it for special occasions, though).

Thanks Charlie.

I’m hoping now that sigma will swoop in and undercut Sony with the 35 1.2 price :)

why are you holding the lenses and not the camera :p

One on camera and one cradling lens...when shooting handheld. Smartypants.

£629 pre-order at Park Cameras for the FE35/1.8

Soon be under £500 import if they don't sell too well ;)

showing $748 for preorders at bnh

.

I maybe interested.. this plus a 85 1.8.. completes my sony kit

will probably end up getting rid of the 28/2 and the 55/1.8

.. but .. its so close to the 28/2 it better be amazing IQ wise for the price difference

New 35/1.8 a no brainer. Assuming as good as the 85/1.8, no doubts there.
As always the weight it what appeals to me and Poof.
Like Charlie I'll wait a bit on it though. Still a bit too wide for bierds.

The weight is a huge appeal for me too, I would carry my A7III and this lens with me everywhere. I'll probably wait until next year when prices drop a bit and see how I feel about my Sigma then too.

Jesus! I’m off to google redcat

Either think hard on the Redcat. I tried with bierds but the DOF is incredibly narrow
and manual focus not fast enough for my little bierds here-they're just too fast.
For me this is dedicated astro only but it does have a helical focuser which makes
it a hybrid between a telescope and a camera lens. For the FOV for an astro shoot check this out; it's a great
tool to see what you'll image with a particular scope and camera (I chose the Redcat and a Sony crop sensor camera)

Also a pic of M31 via the a7rii + an Astrotech 65.....I won't be taking the Astrotech in the camper just due to size

Sorry to be so totally off-topic here but I'm really looking forward to the release of Francis Ford Coppola’s restored "Apocalypse Now Final Cut". It should be released on 4k UHD HDR disc on Aug 27th and will feature a soundtrack in Dolby Atmos. This should look and sound awesome on my Samsung 55" 4K TV and soundbar that plays Dolby Atmos soundtracks.

I've only seen the movie once, many years ago in what was the original version.

I am interested too, but on the big screen. I have only seen this movie on small 20-25in tv's. I was too young when it was originally in the theater to see it on the big screen. The first time I saw this was on an aging 20 inch TV that had a green color cast since it was so old and failing. Even with such a limited view this movie had impact and haunted me for a while.
