I was thinking the same thing, and also not bulbous

It has a rear gel slot if that helps.

So, this morning, I filled up at the local Shell Gas for the first time this month. Fifty dollars for 12 gallons of premium.

Thank goodness I don't drive 32 miles each way to work and back anymore.

Welcome to California.

On this day fifty-six years ago, on July 11, 1963, my two best friends and I enlisted in the US Navy shortly after graduating from high school. Unfortunately, one of us had a medical issue and failed the physical. We had all been guaranteed Dental Technician Class "A" School after boot camp and were going in on the "Buddy" system. Jim was a Kiddy Cruiser too. We were informed that San Diego RTC was closed due to an outbreak of Meningitis and that we were being sent to Great Lakes RTC instead.

The top photo shows us together before we went downtown L.A. to take the physical, fill out all the paperwork and be sworn in. The next two images are the official photos of Jim and I being congratulated after the swearing-in ceremony.

Jim and I graduated DT "A" School in March 1964.

Very nice Gene. A lot of emotion and history caught there.

Just pre-ordered the 35 1.8. Was planning on waiting until people on here had tried it out and the price dropped but Lee sent me a 10% off voucher for a camera shop in the UK. Ended up getting it for £566 which seemed too good to pass up.

I blame you Lee!!

Yes when it comes to the actual photography, size is an absolute consideration because it does not matter how great a lens is if you don't shoot with it. I think this is discounted more than it should be.

I've always maintained dual kits...paid and personal kits. For my paid work, size isn't a consideration, but for my own photography, it absolutely does.

That said, it is nice to have a selection of superlative lenses too. The beauty of the FE system right now is choice.

Speaking of, I looked up the weight of the new Sig 14-24 e-mount and cringed. I'd just never suffer the weight of it. But for my own
curiosity I'd like to see how much coma it has---knowing the Sony 12-24 is practically void of it. And I don't have to tell you 12 vs 14 on the
wide is significant.

I have been seeing ads lately on TV with a retro new design VW bus, maybe its the next thing coming in VW lineup. I understand the bug is in it's last year of production, they are going to retire it.

As big as that lens is, it better be perfect on all technical accounts!

FWIW, most Sigma lenses are close to perfect....technically. They're just massive.

The funny thing about Sigma is that they were the original folks stating how hard it was to develop lenses for the FE mount because of the mount diameter....a sentiment echoed by both Canikon with their new mirrorless mounts.

And yet they released a FE 35 f1.2 that I'm assuming meets their IQ benchmark as its an ART lens. I mean its massive, but they made it sound impossible.

:-P I’m easily swayed . Seems like a good price. Kind of in the range where I thought it should be in the first place

Why did you cancel your 200-600 BTW.

A tank of gas lasts me a long time now that I'm retired. Heck, in October, my car will be five years old and will still have less than 12,000 miles on it. If I were still working, I'd either still have my Prius or would have bought another one by now.

I canceled my preorder for the FE200-600 because I don't even use my 100-400 enough as it is. The more I thought about it, the more I realized how seldom I'd use those extra 200mm's at the long end. Even with having both 1.5x and 2x extenders, I just don't think I'd use the lens enough. Maybe I'll change my mind at some point in the future though.

Yeah its a bit more expensive than I thought it would be.

OTOH it leads me to believe that it isn't budget caliber in terms of optics either.

I'm really disliking larger lenses more and more, so the size and faster aperture are the priority. You've posted great stuff with the FE 85 1.8....I'm hoping the FE 35 is of the same caliber.

I think a GM version of this lens would be on the large side....24GM is a little bit bigger than I'd like.

It does look like the same quality as the 85 which is definitely a good thing. I'm thinking Sony may be taking a page out of Canons book and releasing at a high price then drop it down a few months later to make the most of early adopters.

Thanks I appreciate it! I'm trying to use 85mm more and become more accustomed to the focal length. Yeah I tend to stop chasing the larger aperture lenses these days, I'm happy with f/1.8 and having the lens be much smaller.

If Sony can make a GM smaller than all other 35's that would be real impressive considering they all seem to be roughly around the same size now.

FE 35 1.8 Pre-ordered!

Fun fact....converted to USD, if you ordered from CAD, the lens is 611.

No political talk, but I have a hunch as to why people are freaking out over the price.

Here in Australia we get screwed over so bad. I see a lot of comparisons saying that in the US there's only a $20 difference between the Sony and the 35mm Art.

Here the official pricing haven't even been announced yet but it should be around $1100-$1200 AUD mark and you can get the 35mm Art for $999 or $799 if you wait for ebay 20% off.

Most prices of the 35mm Art here are around $1100 so I could probably resell my lens for the amount I paid and suffer no loss.
