It does look like the same quality as the 85 which is definitely a good thing. I'm thinking Sony may be taking a page out of Canons book and releasing at a high price then drop it down a few months later to make the most of early adopters.

Thanks I appreciate it! I'm trying to use 85mm more and become more accustomed to the focal length. Yeah I tend to stop chasing the larger aperture lenses these days, I'm happy with f/1.8 and having the lens be much smaller.

If Sony can make a GM smaller than all other 35's that would be real impressive considering they all seem to be roughly around the same size now.

Here in Australia we get screwed over so bad. I see a lot of comparisons saying that in the US there's only a $20 difference between the Sony and the 35mm Art.

Here the official pricing haven't even been announced yet but it should be around $1100-$1200 AUD mark and you can get the 35mm Art for $999 or $799 if you wait for ebay 20% off.

Most prices of the 35mm Art here are around $1100 so I could probably resell my lens for the amount I paid and suffer no loss.

It sure does, usually makes me sleepy too haha.

Congrats! If there was a deal that good I'd probably jump on it too!

My Batis 85 sold about 10 mins after I ordered the 35. I’m going to buy the FE 85 I think so that both lenses are small and have the focus hold button etc

Might make a neat camper.

You read my mine, electric to boot, just not as much room as your van

The Southern Calif boys will have this tricked out as soon as it hits the market.

It will be a surfers cult ride..

It has a rear gel slot if that helps.

So do you think it will also be able to take ND filters and polarizer in the rear slot ?

Need to see how the Coma is.

MM makes a good point about the 12-24

"Speaking of, I looked up the weight of the new Sig 14-24 e-mount and cringed. I'd just never suffer the weight of it. But for my own
curiosity I'd like to see how much coma it has---knowing the Sony 12-24 is practically void of it. And I don't have to tell you 12 vs 14 on the
wide is significant."

I've seen a few image quality comparisons and many people couldn't tell the difference between the Sony and the Batis so you've made a good choice!

I am so tempted to sell my Sigma but I know I have to wait until next year and stick to my promise of no more new gear this year...

I was surprised to see that and wasn't expecting it. Not sure useful that would be for me personally given that I almost always used ND GRADS but for ND use it's very useful.

I think I might try to level her eyes. For example, I used the content-aware move tool to select her then moved her to the right a little. A square 'free transform' box appeared around her which I rotated a bit til her eyes looked more level to me. This is the only thing I changed.

I do see what looks like a shadow behind her on the left of the image now but that could probably be cleaned up easily enough.

I myself prefer the original...I have been studying a lot of other headshots, and I liked them a little more less square.

I've had both. No real difference in performance imo.

Yeah same as what I've seen in comparisons.

All this gear talk has me itching to get that 35mm lol. Even if I lose out on 2/3rds of a stop of aperture, it will be so light my A73 will be with me daily.

:) Callum now looks at the camera for 0.5 seconds before looking away as opposed to 0.01 seconds. Feels like a long time now
