That's exactly why I think this body is being released too soon. IMO they would have been better off releasing the R3 now with the new sensor but have made the most of people with G.A.S

I do think there may have been some planned obsolescence involved in the a7rIII and they could have put the 60mp sensor into that thing in 2017....but a7rII to a7rIII is actually a bigger upgrade than the a7rIII to the a7rIV would be given the nature of what I shoot. A7rII was such a sluggish package of compromises for me, and the a7rIII does everything I need it to.

I do need to add another body at some point and it might as well be the a7rIV. I mainly want the AF system. But it will be a next year purchase for me.

I'm pretty bummed that we didn't get a compact FF camera.

One thing that stood out from the presentation is that they made a point to call out the fact that they listen to their customers when they design the products. I've always felt this way at this iteration, but they specifically called it out this time. It's good that Sony is so hyper-sensitive to how people critique their cameras, as you know they genuinely want to give consumers products they want.

OMG WTH Cory? It’s a beautiful gorgeous image, but are you seriously still using that ancient 6500?

Seriously I’m awed by the extreme beauty of the mountain northwest...hope I get more opportunities to camp there again in the future.

Yeah....still hammering away with the a6500. I really would like to stick with the APS-c for the small size and less expensive glass but I HATE shooting with this camera.

Thanks for the nice comment on the photo!

You can borrow my A6400 next week for a few days and try it out. The AF is insane.

When I made my joke about your camera I was thinking the a6500 is still a relatively new camera, but I looked it up and realized it came out back in 2016. That’s just a year later than my a7R II. So your camera really is actually getting semi-old. ;)

It is interesting - and very frustrating for you aps-c shooters - that Sony seems narrowly obsessed with their FF mirrorless cameras.

Making me think I could have priced them higher :)

Did you have much of a loss from the sale?

The Mark iii bodies in general are all a big upgrade IMO, especially the 7III. I see they increased the AF coverage to 77%, I thought they may have been aiming for the 90's like the A9 and 7III.

If there were to announce an A7IV next year I don't know what I would do. I personally don't have any issues at all with the A7III aside from maybe the rear screen quality and that it's not fully articulating. Although if I didn't upgrade straight away, I would lose value on the body and I need that to afford my new body.

I bought the CV40 for £750 and sold it for £675. I always sell lenses when eBay are doing £1 max fees deals (as opposed to the usual 10% of sale value as a fee) so I can live with that level of “rental” cost

I need to dig more into the details as I've just read a few announcements on the 4 but so far I'm solid on my comment about no need to upgrade to the 4. the R3 has been great.

Wow that's pretty good, here ebay don't do that seller sales unfortunately :( I always have to mark up the price to get it for the amount I want after fees.

The shades of grey are very 'Ansel Adams' like to me. Great tonality without being too contrasty.

I am too eager and called Sony Australia to see if they have their pricing.

AUD pricing is $1149
Store I am buying from is $1129.

They haven't even made the pricing public yet so I am the first one to preorder it with this store and I'm guaranteed first shipment as preorder isn't live on their website yet :D

So I just have to stress about selling my 35mm Art now.

They told me shipment is expected end of September, going to be a long wait...

Man, that is a mighty fine compliment...thank you. I second guessed the contrast at first and increased it....then went back to my original. I liked it more.
