The year the 85/1.8 came out Mark Galer said it was his 'pick of the year' for Sony gear. Images like this show why.

Thanks and it's honestly such a good lens, especially for the price.

Hopefully the upcoming FE 35mm f/1.8 will be the same.

I dont understand all the negative comments on this camera. It is a "NEW" sensor that is huge. I really dont think they will have a new high rez out again until spring of 21. With the Olympics next year I think this is it. I dont know what an 9R would have. Now could they release a 7Siii and a 92 before the olympics yes but with this camera and my A9 I think for bodies I am set for 3 years minimum.

Which means I can get back into lens mode next spring which will come down to tamron 17-28 or sony 16-35GM and still wanting the 85 1.8

I am fricken excited

I don't hear negative comments... Just rationalizations of what the value proposition is... Particularly if you already have an a7riii, which is a very capable and balanced camera as is. I think there's greater urgency to upgrade if you're still using an a7rii, but worth waiting at least for a price drop below $3k if you have an riii.

I don't think we ever see an a9r... A9 will always be optimized for speed, so lower MP is the best route to go. I do think we see an a9II before the Olympics though

Oh what a name can do. Such an uproar from some of the a7riii shooters that their 3 should’ve been this 4. Or that the jump from 3 to 4 isn’t that big. Or that they’re upset that they just bought the 3. I might be upset though if I had just bought the 3 like 1-2 months ago, less so if I had bought it at launch

But if they had named this the a9r people would’ve probably flipped out that the specs aren’t good enough and that it should be better even if it was priced at the same $3500 price instead of what we thought an a9r could be $4500-5000.

I know that we have discussed a bit the Peak Design tripod...and I was looking at it again this week...trying to make up my mind...and while watching a video on the new A7R4 from Kai...I made up my mind...nope. He is pushing buttons on the camera and the thing is bouncing all over, it doesn't look steady at all...so...my mind is made up. I will stick with my Gitzo and RRS legs...just funny that a video on one thing, made up my mind about something else that probably wasn't intended to be in the video...

I noticed that too but didn't know what ball head that was, just that it had a very long 'neck' and wobbled every time he touched the camera.

pretty sure it was the PD tripod...he was setting it up in the beginning of the video and it was no doubt that tripod...I watched it again and later he comments something about a manfrotto table top tripod...but it was hard to really see...it did look like it changed...continuity is never something these vloggers think about...and in the comments someone else mentioned it too...so it might have been two tripods.
