I'm going to shoot video of a sheet stretched out on the ground during totality hoping to get the snakes that
might emerge.....if of course we don't have crap weather....odds are never good here for anything in the sky.

First time plying the a6500 with the FE90 and some tubes. Super lightweight macro rig.
As always using tubes and the DOF plummets but I can't get this detail in the field without them
and I got bored stacking dead subjects....part of the field work is the hunt (minus the Yellow Jackets
who enjoy a whole can of killing spray once I found out where their burrow was).

Very nice, Robert.

I got a set of those extension tubes yesterday. Going to take a stab at some bees in the backyard shortly.
I am still not entirely sure I understand what the extension tubes do. I did some comparison shots in the kitchen with/without, and the best I can tell, the minimum focusing distance on the FE90 remains the same, but I get a bit of magnification added. Is that the gist of it?

A wide-angled look at a moth on the wall. When I came home from the store this morning, I found this moth on the wall just outside my back door. I was probably within two inches of it when I took this shot. I also used my new Nissin i60A flash with the included diffuser.

MFD changes drastically and magnification increases.....remember the bellows macros of old times. Increasing the bellows length
increased magnification.
If you know the EOS MP-65 when you turn the focus ring your not focusing, only changing the distance between the optics and the sensor;
in this case the lens barrel is the bellows.
So extension tubes are like bellows.

Well, I'll say it again....Big props to all the landscape shooters that put in the effort and come away with amazing photos. I on the other hand just spent a week in the central Idaho mountains and came home with a bunch of snapshots! To get the goods you have to spend the night. Most my shots are taken at high noon on day hikes. I do have a backpacking trip planned next month. We'll see what happens. Having said this I bet Eddie comes home with some amazing stuff taken right out of his camper van! ;-)a

I'll sprinkle in a few over the next few days. Here's one from the iconic Sawtooth Lake. This is a less photographed view from the outlet.

That is how I understand it as well. However my experiments in a controlled environment do not seem to match up.
I set the FE 90 (straight up on the camera, no tubes) to its minimum focus distance. I then move the camera back or forward until my stationary target is in focus.
At this point, I would expect that if I keep the camera in exactly the same spot, and add a tube, and keep the FE 90 on its minimum focus, then I should see my focus point move closer to the camera, right?
It does not appear to do so.

Does anyone here have experience with the Pixel King Pro transceivers? I'm pretty close to picking a set up, as my HVL-f20 bit the dust . . . but in truth, it needed to.

I'de stick with godox/flashpoint. They have an entire system that works cross brands.

went shooting last night, spent hours of driving and scouting.... think I need to go further inland so the plane is higher elevation.

Closest silhouette I got, and think some camera shake going in this as well.... Capturing that plane in the moon isnt happening, too big.

Will have to wait till next month to try again.

So close Charlie, will be a cool shot when you get it.

Charlie - was it you in one of the previous threads that posted the link to the black tape that looked like camera leather? As in tape that was that sort of camera leather effect you can use for blacking out logos etc?. I don't want it for that use but my google searching hasn't came up with anything

Nice one Charlie. Not an easy shot, looks like. And kudos for coming up with an idea and trying to see it through. I wish I had that kind of follow-through.

Also, starting to think it's not the extension tubes that are my problem, but rather the FE90.

For those of you who own the FE90, can you do me a favor and try something?
Set the lens to MF. Rotate the focus ring all the way to mfd (0.28m) and put some object at that distance, in focus.
Now set the lens to AF, without moving camera or target. See if you can get the lens to AF at that mfd. Mine will not.
