Anyone consider the Canon EF 16-35 III on an a7RII vs the FE version? Too big? I had the previous version of the Canon 16-35 and while the corner sharpness were a let down, it had the best sunstars out of a wide angle zoom.

I looked into it, but dismissed the idea for a few reasons

1. Sunstars are completely different to the ii
2. It's quite big, even bigger than the unadapted GM. 780g bare, 900g with adapter, plus adapter size = sizeable lens. If it was simply heavier, I could eat the weight and deal with it, but longer as well, will make it seem a lot heavier in practice.
3. Coma performance wasnt that good from what I recall. I could be wrong on this, I just saw a sample on the early thread and that was my conclusion.

I don't have an FE version to compare, but I found the EF 16-35 f/2.8L III too big on the A7RII. For me, it is uncomfortable for anything other than tripod based shots with the A7RII. It's a super sharp lens, but heavy. With the MB-IV adaptor it weighs 1022 grams.

EDIT: my lens/adaptor weight was taken from my wife's very accurate kitchen scale. Astro shots I've taken don't have the Coma issue.

Thanks guys for the inputs. I'll see how the GM version performs then.

On another topic, my Canon 70-200L recently sold so I'm now able to buy something. I think I'll go for the FLM CB38 ballhead. I can't really afford a lens right now. The priority is a NAS but I'm going to wait off on that for a bit more.

I love the 16-35 zooms, but I'm doubtful I get the GM when I finish the migration to all Sony gear. The way things are working well for me with the FE 12-24 and the Loxia 21 & 35, I don't see a 16-35 GM in the future...at this point in time. :p :-D

Yep, the 12-24 + 24-70 focal length has displace the FE16-35 from my loadout (currently).
Only prime I have in that zone is the B18 not county macro.

I always loved a 3 lens solution.
I amassed it with the EOS kit back in the day and now can do a whole trip
with the 12-24, 24-70, 100-400.

All packs easily in the EDB (Everyday Backpack), even with the FE100-400 + 1.4TC + a9 body
on one side behind the zipper so easy access. The other two on the other side.

For fun I did a test loadout of the EDB, way heavy for me to tote far but I got these lenses and bodies in it with ease-
12-24
24-70
B18
FE90
100-400 with both TCs
plus 35/1.4 and 16-50 (walkarounds)
a9, a6500, and a7Rii.

In fact all of the above came straight out of a Pelican Air 1535.

And while I'm ranting/mumbling on, do you guys know the TrekPak system for Pelican ??? It's like sliced bread or the
sticky note for Pelican packing.

Went shooting in Elysian Park last night with Joshua (of FM). I got to try out the FE100-400 and color me impressed.
Not as big or heavy as I expected either. It's about on par with the FE 70-200/4, only a bit beefier and a tad heavier. Handles about the same.

Processing the pics as we speak, but it seems very sharp, quick to AF (stationary subject) and rather fun to use.

Definitely did not help my GAS.

A neighboring town has a family of peacocks that occupy a few lots in the downtown area. Well, they occupy more than that as they tend to roam around. The neighborhood these birds are in is downright terrible, but worth it to me to grab some stills of these magnificent creatures.

FLM makes a number of parts to assemble a pano kit. This is one of their quick release plates that acts as a slide to help find the non-parallax (nodal) point. It's actually pretty inexpensive and a better value than RRS. They use cork to help dampen vibrations.

I'll probably pick up this 2D spirit bubble too.

You all remember the awesome shot Travis got from Roan High Bluff last week?
We were hunting bugs near Carvers Gap yesterday and went on up to the bluff for a
sunset that didn't happen. Still nice being up there, it was 58F and downtown when we left 89F.
This shot 5-6 min's after sunset and 2 miles (crow fly) from the cabin-
