Congrats on being #2!

But, yes, it’s pretty demoralizing when an objectively awful photo of a dog under a chair is #1 and a MAGA picnic (kidding ;)) is #4 and, scrolling down, the overall view of Flickr Explore is mostly awful or banal photos.

In the past Flickr Explore had plenty of curious choices, but was also full of truly impressive images. Looks like impressive images, like your amazing DV shot, are getting to be a rarity in Explore.

Thanks David! Oh my goodnes, #4 is so odd.

#1 is also odd to me in that it has fewer views and likes than Alfredo's by far.

One of my Death Valley sand dune images made it to #2 on the Flickr explore page. #1 is a picture of a dog under a chair.

I seriously hope Flickr restructures their Flickr algorithm. It's really a mess.

In other news, Colby Brown and others are at a Sony event and he posted the other day on IG asking people what he should request of Sony engineers. I commented to tell them to bring back the Sony Playmemory apps but improve them.

First, co grats that's awesome! And a really nice image too, I don't remember seeing that one.

EXPLORE has gotten weird...in the top 10 yesterday it was mostly junk...I was #7 and #8 was a poorly edited waterfall...but overall interaction was way down...in the past when I had one in the top 10, 1k faves was not unheard of...not so much anymore...but when the majority of the images are bad snapshots, it's no wonder no one pays any attention to it anymore. Images like Alfredo posted are few and far between...

Thanks Travis. It's about the only sand dune shot I got that has some of that light and shadow that I was seeking. As we discussed, I think sunrise would work better at this location for those type of minimalist/abstract shots.

Yeah, I usually don't check EXPLORE page too often. As you said, most images on there are snapshots.

I tried some BIF with A9 / Sigma 500 @ 1000mm. Both cropped. It seems to work.

Very nice Choder. I've always love the emerald eyes.
Good to know the Sig 500 works with the a9, even better to know you are strong enough to lift it!

Explore=buses, trains, funky cartoon characters. Sad to say there is no true esteem in being Explored. So many of my excellent shots (my opinion) never even glanced
at by the algorithm yet something I throw up just to post something gets the nod.

First time using the 200-600 on the a6400. Makes me really want the Riv (or an a9 like cropper).

My biggest lens dilemma: I currently own both CV 12mm and FE 12-24mm, but would like to sell one of them (how many 12mm lenses does one really need?). I have more fun shooting the FE 12-24, but I prefer the colors, rendering, and sunstars of the CV 12mm. Also the 12-24mm has a better resale value. I’m hopelessly torn and may have to keep both. Thoughts/suggestions?

Those damn CVs are always in the way aren't they? If I could take them out of the equation my life would be so easy........ so I have no advice for you they are my bane as well.

My goodness! Just had a proper look at the sigma 35 1.2 image thread on FM. Can’t believe how amazing the lens renders. Smooth lovely looking bokeh and sharp wide open. I really don’t want a big lens but the images I’m seeing are amazing!

In a major dilemma now to stick with my 35/1.8 pre order or not. The sensible thing would be to stick, but...

As you were all talking off topic about a amazon series a few pages back, my most recent watched is Billions, first series is free, 2 & 3 you have to buy..All about wall street hedge funds and an aggressive attorney general who has other motives of rising in the political world to take them down.

Thanks for the mention of "The Boys"

I'm okay. The size and weight of any lenses like that simply takes any desire away for me. Awesome looking images though I will agree fully!

You ordered the FE35 on that 10% discount didn't you Eddie?

Found this Japanese link in FM on the 1.8..... looks real good other than the flaring / star test. I like this site you can scroll thru the aperture to see the change in shot.
