I've been wanting something great to fill that gaping hole left when I sold my Otus 55mm and I finally found it! :) I like this thing even more than the Otus: love the AF, wider view, and it just feels way better than that massive front-heavy adapted DSLR lens.

Yeah heavier native glass is not an issue because it balances well.

Heavy adapted glass feels doubly heavy because it makes for the a front heavy set-up that puts a lot of strain on the wrists.

Sigma 35 is too big for personal use, but I have a sense that I'll be adding one for paid work sooner than later.

Beautiful rendering on your Sigma images David. I'll have to add this lens to my wish list.

An intimate landscape shot from the Great Smokies. The morning light had become a bit harsh so I searched for a scene that included a moss covered rock with a cascade.

I also see a green serpent leaning forward on his front legs and drinking from the swiftly moving water.

I have been waiting, like Robert and probably others, for the mini a9 or whatever they chose to call it. First Sony introduced the a6400 and now the a6600. I was leaning toward the a6600 with a few more features than the 6400. When looking at the comparison and taking my time sorting through I see a few things. Battery size, a non-issue for me since we have plenty of the W batteries in the house. No ibis in the 6400 which for me is a non-issue as well. The lenses I would use with this body are all OSS lenses. A couple more very minor things that aren't worth mentioning. I liked the placement of some of the buttons on the 6600 but honestly, I don't use all the buttons on the R3 or a9 as it is.

After thinking more about this and judging from the reactions online (thinking resale) I believe my best investment might be the a6400 and I would likely negotiate it through greentoe.

Thoughts?

Well i keep going back and forth Lens will be the 200/600 that's set in stone it's only for birding I have a EM1X kit that covers any other needs as well as birding

The a9 is the best in AF but i would nearly always need a 1.4tc but if I buy the new a7r1v i don't need the tc . AF will just be a tad behind I can live with that and the lower fps.

Cost isn't a problem and my computer can handle large files, birds in the UK tend to be very hard to get close too so the extra MP s seems to be the way to go and the crop factor . so last week it was the a9 but now it's the a7rIv and of cause I can always go to the a9 II at a later date .

IMO most of the advantages of the A6600 over the A6400 only matter if you are using the camera to shoot video. I have the A6400 and most of my lenses do not have oss. When I need a tack sharp landscape image I use a tripod. Even if you do want to shoot video you can get the A6400 and a gimbal for less than the A6600. At that point the only thing you are gaining is real time eye AF for movies and a headphone jack. That's great if you will use it but I think most people that buy the A6600 will be paying for features they never use.

Agreed on the non-use of features.

I shoot APS-c for compact size and less financial investment into my hobby...I have too many other things I waste money on! I'm kinda in the same boat as I have been waiting for my dream upgrade from 6500 which I've had since it's release. I don't think there will ever be a cam that checks all the boxes. And TBH, I think I've been a little naive regarding what I though was important (i.e joystick isn't necessary with the new AF tracking systems). I watched the release of the 6400 come and go without giving much attention. Now with the latest offerings not being exactly what I had in mind I've reevaluated my needs/wants. After comparing the 6100, 6400, 6600 I've decided to go with the 6400. I went through Greentoe and got a nice little discount below any Labor Day sales I could find on the internet. We'll just say the offer that was accepted was not a whole lot more than the cost of a 6100. After having a play with AngelofDepth's 6400 for a couple n nights I'm certain I'm going to be very happy with my decision. There's my 2 cents. YMMV.

I'm the same way, Cory. I'm going to wait until after the 5th though now SAR is saying it won't be a camera announcement. Mine is strictly birding/wildlife so settings are pretty much geared to that and don't change. The 6400 is in the lead for me right now.

My first night in Seattle...braving the zoo of Kerry Park, hoping to capture Rainier off in the distance...glad I made the call to go there. It is just over 60 miles from where I was to the mountain...and it takes 2.5 hours to drive there...

Some snaps of the boys' cake for their party today. Shot on the FE 35 1.8.

The lens is sharp and contrasty. Close focusing capabilities are really nice!
